oem shims necessary on my Hawk ceramic HP pads?

I trusted my friend for the brake job and everything went fine, and bites well.
But at one point when he removed the original pads, there was additional metal plate on the oem pads, thin metal pads with slit oepnings.
I understand that these are called shims (correct me if im wrong)
My question is, do these shims needs to be transferred over to these hawk pads? My friend told me that this ceramic hawk pads already have shims pre installed and does not need to put on the oem shims. Is this true?
And is it necessary to put the oem shims back on with these hawk pads? or is it fine without the oem shims?

Will driving the car without shims cause malfunction and make my car go ?

Never messed aroudn with brake jobs..please help a noob.

thanks!

**oh yeah mine is 05 coupe with non-brembo setup.

im not sure, but i dont think hawk pads come with new shims

but dont worry, even if u didnt put the shims on its not gonna actually do anything to your car or brakes. shims are only used to prevent brake noise

if you hear your brakes making noise then just take your hawks out and put the oem shims back on them
