My Intake and Exhaust Testimony

Ok, so from the get go, I decided to only change out my intake and exhaust. First I joined this forum so I can do all my research and get all my questions on the table...thanks for the feedback guys.

EXHAUST: After long debate with myself if I should save some money or get the exhaust I realy wanted, I went with the HKS Hi Power. Since this was my first of two changes...I can say that the car was markedly louder. Great sound, yet quiet while cruising....perfect for me.

INTAKE: This is realy why I'm posting this... From what I've been reading and commentary from friends, I was REALLY thinking that the car was going to be again, louder. I installed the Stillen Hi-Flow Intake and Z-tube yesterday. NOT LOUDER.... I'm not complaining....but it's not really louder. It's different, has a slightly different sound. I will say that it sounds better at 5K RPM's which makes aggressive driving more fun.

I have a hunch that if I had installed the intake first, I would be able to identify the sound differences, but in the order that I made mods, not so much. All in all...I am happy with the combination and have no regrets. For everyone that answered my questions along the way....cheers.

if you had the intake first... you would hear a sound difference, but since i think you got an exhaust first you wont really hear a difference...

Yep, I agree. I didn't really want to go louder so it works for me...it has a nice balance right now. Who knows...maybe the JWT Pop charger would have been louder...maybe this says more about the Stillen system than it does Intake in general.

Great choice of mods Michael, where the sound gets wild/crazy is from 3K to 5K RPMs. Be careful you'll give some little old lady a heart attack, sooo much fun!

the only thing i cant stand about the hks is how big the tips are on it, would it be easy to get the hks and weld the stock tips on it?

When I got mine on I was pretty shocked at how big the tips were as well. I'm used to it now though. If that's the only thing holding you back from getting one, I honestly wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks man. But for what it's worth...I've never kept my stock stereo. I suppose I should have said under the hood mods. After the stereo though...maybe the grill and that's it. Ya never know though!

Cheers buddy.

Yep, those tips are huge. Didn't realize it until it was installed. Seeing these parts on the computer when doing research is decieving. I just about left a doodie loaf when I saw the size of the air filter on the intake...it's as big as my head.

Hummm...maybe it has more to do with mine being a Stillen Hi-Flow... It's marketed as a CAI, but it's more of a short ram that has an air box.

Stillen's CAI is gathering cooler air from the OEM locations so you'll never have issues with moisture ingesting. My favorite part of the intake is that giant K&N filter and the fact that it's not bothered by heat like POP chargers....very little heat soak if any!

The hks looks nice. I went with the stillen. I have a problem of always changing my parts. I first ordered a magnaflow exhaust from another member here and before it even arrived in the mail I heard a stillen and wanted that so I ordered it. When my magnaflow came in it sat it the box until I sold it. Now the hks is sparking my interest. I wonder what it sounds like in person. Never heard it. Thats whast so hard about picking an exhaust. Unless you hear it in person you can never be 100% sure, and watching youtube can only do so much...
