I kind of have to agree though. All the extra material required to cover the gear indicator does look a bit sloppy.

hey Mamma, can you take measurements of that hole with the indicatior removed, I know that Lokcsmith has been trying to find someone who could take the whole thing off to get measurements for a shiftboot.

The whole part that I removed just pops out (of course, don't pry where I did). Pry under the outer edges with a plastic putty knife or metal with a rag over it.
Unplug the cables and flip over. There should be some screws that hold the shift indicator on. Haven't had it off myself though. Don't have time to do it myself right now. Up to my elbows in dynomat.
