After market air filters cost more than OEM air filter?

Hey guys, my air filter is getting a little filthy so I'm getting ready to change it. I've been shopping around online and saw a K&N air filter for $48 at autozone. Then I looked up an OEM G35 air filter that is $30 including shipping. Why is the aftermarket one more expensive? With that said, should I replace it with an aftermarket or get an OEM?

you only have to buy the K&N once. It's not a disposable filter. When it gets dirty you clean and re-oil.

Yes it's $18 more but you'll never have to buy another filter, just the kit that sells for $10 to clean and re-oil. K&N guarantees their filters for 100K miles, not bad for the extra $....

Are you guys using the K&N air filter as we speak? I'm a little skeptical at the fact that a used air filter, no matter how much you clean it, can be as clean as a brand new one. What is the oil for? Will using an aftermarket air filter void my warranty?

I recommend the Amsoil EA Nanofiber filter... it's cheaper than a K&N, filters the air much better, and is reusable. Oiled filters such as K&N can screw up your MAF sensor if you over-oil them or put the filter in before the spray agent has evaporated.

That's why you read the instructions and go lightly with the oil. I have been using them for about 6 years now and still no problems.

The oil problem happens because people are impatient, after washing the filter you must wait until it is 100% dry before spraying on the oil.

There is no such thing as truer.

People typically use K&N more for the performance aspect. They flow more air than paper filters or the amsoil nanofiber.

even a dirty K&N will flow more air than a new paper filter and when properly cleaned are as good as the day it came out of the box.

More truer. (except not)

Another test, they come out basically even.

Another win for Amsoil:

i just saved $112, based on what my local Infiniti dealer wanted to charge me to replace the (dirty) air filter...amazing.

is this the kinda treatment i can expect at a dealership where the waiting area has a 42" HDTV, 20 varieties of coffee & tea, and lush wood paneling?

If your in the department of replacing the air filter I would recommend going with maybe a ram air or cold air intake. The sound alone is a good reason to convert it. That is always the first mod I do on my car. The sound of it at full throttle is a beautiful thing. If your not into the sound than disreguard my post.

They have to pay for all those nice things somehow.
