Bad Engine Knock!

Hey guys, looking for some ideas what it might be. I drove about 600 miles in the last 24 hours and at the end of my driving my engine is knocking really bad. I'm not sure what it is. None of my engine lights or anything are on. I changed the oil, got fresh gas and added octane booster and reset the ecu. Its still knocking and thats about as far as my intellect gets me. Any ideas what it could be? Probably gonna take it to the stealership in the morning.

Its an 03 Auto

Use 91-93 octane high quality gas. There's no need for octane booster....

yea I normally do use good gas and the only reason I put octane booster in it was in case I got a bad tank from an gas station from a town I'm not familiar with, and just wanted to up the octane of what was left over in the tank already.

Get to the dealership and they say I need a new engine. WTF? Of course lucky me its not under warranty so now I get to decide if I want to put money into an engine or just trade it in as is.

I have a problem with them just saying I need a new engine though. They didn't take any of the engine apart and the block isn't cracked or anything. I have no lights on and no power loss or anything, just really loud knocking. Not sure what to do....

Did you double check your plenum SPACER and make sure your plenum is bolted down tight? I know the bolts can come loose over time but they should hold pretty good. I'd double check that because when I bolted my plenum down on the spacer one time I ended up not tightening 1 or 2 of the screws all the way and that caused a loud "knocking" sound. Hope this helps, good luck man.

i'd just dump the car before it takes a dump on you and leaves you stranded

when my engine blew... i had a knocking noise as well. no visible damage either. the service engine light did come on like a day before the engine went out. i have an 05 6mt and i was stopped at a light when it was acting up and it was reving on its own and it stalled while at a light in neutral. luckily i was under warranty but i had to go to corporate to get anywhere with it. i was out of my car for like 3 weeks. when i got my car back, the dealership really had a problem with me for some reason and i hated the way they treated me. now they told me to never come back again.

how long did they have your car for? Typically when you need a new engine certain signs are there. The knocking could be the first sign. Check your oil, perform a compression test yourself (or a good buddy or trusted shop).

have your codes pulled anyway, verify you have no codes. Sometimes a bad knock sensor wont throw a code.

what type of oil went it at the last oil change?

check oil level.

octane boosters are pretty much worthless on a stock G, or one w/ light bolt ons...
