hey guys my gf is lookin to get a new car...its a throw up between lexus is300,rsx-s,or g35 coupe.....needs to be relyable yet sporty and also she wants to be able to drive this in the winter....how does the g35 coupe handle in the winter? would she be ok? we kinda have shitty winters here in illinois so i just wanna make sure...thanks!

 

Is she familiar with rear-wheel drive? It's tricky in the winters if you've driven FWD your whole life. If that is the case, RSX would be the choice of those three cars.

I've driven rear-wheel drive my whole life and the G35 does just fine. I didn't get stuck or spin around at all last winter in Michigan.

 

Is300 and RSX-S is not in the same price catagory as G35 Coupe....?

Unless your gf is a driving fanatic, the G35C would not be the best choice for the winter belt. I would recommend the G35x, Acura TSX, TL, Audi A4, Subaru Legacy for that purpose. The G35C is a disaster waiting to happen in the snow unless you got dedicated winter tires mounted.

My car before the G was an IS300.

Problems that I've encountered with that car: 0. No rattles, no squeaks, no problems. Transmission is excellent, and the cabin is quiet. Just throw on some all-season tires or dedicated winter tires if she wants to buy another set of rims. I loved the car, but I needed a little more "umph"..

WRX would be a nice safe winter car while still being lots of fun, but she will probably think it's ugly. What about a used 330ix (all-wheel drive)? Dude, if she gets a G35 coupe, she ain't gonna be your girlfriend much longer....lots of guys will be jockin' that, lol.

I can understand suggesting g35x, audi a4, and subaru legacy.. but why tsx and tl? those are fwd cars.. you can get the coupe and just buy a set of good all season tires if your main concern is snow.. I live in california, and unless it starts snowing here in sacramento my car will never see a single drop of snow

 

Yep, I have the 6MT sedan w/winter package. That car came with Goodyear Eagle RS-A All Seasons.
