Dyno Results

Just had my car dyno'ed yesterday and the results are pretty consistent with what other people have been getting. My car is stock.

I have to wait a couple of days to use a friend's scanner, after which I'll post up the charts.

It has four readings, three done in 3rd gear, one in fourth:

3rd Gear:
1. Max power = 227.7, Max torque = 210.6
2. Max power = 228.5, Max torque = 212.0
3. Max power = 227.6, Max torque = 215.6

4th Gear:
1. Max power = 230.1, Max torque = 219.1

The curves tend to intersect between 5100 and 5200 RPMs. The torque curve starts dropping after the intersection point, while horsepower starts dropping after 6200 RPMs. At 6200 RPMs, torque was between 190-195 ft-lbs.

They told me that the max acceptable loss to the wheels would be 20 percent...which would be 224hp for our cars.

Re: Dyno Results

Hey dubiux, That turned out well. Only 18% or so loss. That's acceptable. Can't wait to see charts when you can post. L8r bro..

Re: Dyno Results

gsedanman, I was okay with it, since that's what other G owners have been getting. But they were talking amongst themselves about how the s2000 (I think, either that or the boxster...can't remember which) rates their horsepower around 250hp and dynos about the same numbers as ours. Not really a big deal, since the car is fast enough for me, but still...

Re: Dyno Results

Dubiux: Either they have less driveline losses or they understate/under-rate their H/P's. I've heard that about Bimmers..... I feel like you: whatever the charts say- I've got lots of power and tq. Enjoy.

Re: Dyno Results

HP/Torque #'s should intersect at 5252 rpm's by definition, torque should drop after it peaks (duh)
18% loss is a bit high for MT isnt it?
thought MT should be around 15% and Autos around 20% driveline loss

Re: Dyno Results

I lost the software to my scanner, but I'll find some way to get it running and show you the dyno I did. I don't know why but I have some freak G35 coupe.

Re: Dyno Results

hey OvaYahead, I mentioned to the guy about doing it in 5th because of the 1:1 gear ratio deal, and he told me that he didn't want to risk having the car flying off the dyno...since redline on 5th is a pretty high speed...and that "it's better to test in one of the lower gears". If he didn't have confidence testing it in 5th, I wasn't going to push him . I tested at Dyno Spot Racing.

RamboRami, the guy told me that 20% max is acceptable. He did tell me that they tested his friend's G before and that the results were pretty much dead on.

Re: Dyno Results

haha ya congrats on your first dyno! I was pretty scared, the engine was growling, wheels spinning fast and my speedo way up at 142+ and the only thing keeping you from running through the wall are 4 ties.

my stock base in 5th was 240.8 hp and 238.5 tq. how it's so far off then yours, don't ask, I don't know.

Re: Dyno Results

You did yours at ATP? Did they let you step on the gas? I wasn't given a choice, they performed the test for me. I'm tempted to try it again at another place (this time in 5th), but at $85, I'm not that eager right now

Re: Dyno Results

ya it was cool. they let me run the car myself. Gave me a quick lesson then I did about 10 runs. I went with Yuichi, see if he'll go there with you.

Re: Dyno Results

Thanks for the info, dude! I'm in the process of moving, so I'm going to sit on it for a month before I think about doing it again.

Re: Dyno Results

are you staying in the bay?

Ya I don't see the point of dynoing all the time. Maybe once for base, then once after every major engine mod to see where your car stands.

Re: Dyno Results

Yep, I'll be moving to North San Jose.

If I dyno it at the same place that you did and still get similar results, it could mean that you lucked out with a better performing engine. If mine ends up close to yours, then I don't know what the hell that means .
