Not to nitpick, '93 was the first year for the Cobra. '03 was the 10 year anniversary.

Regardless, Cobras are pretty quick. I had a '96, first year for the DOHC 32v. I too got smoked by a Civic with a turbo as well as a naturally aspirated CRX in that car. The CRX was just stupidity, didn't downshift to second. The Civic was fast as hell though.

 

LOL....there are so many versions of the Mustang ...who knows what he had....point is ya got smoked...oh well....mod it and fight another day

yeah I got smoked by a 92 CRX with $20K worth of work on it...pushin 15PSI on his turbo...SICK

Stock manual GT's run high 13's with good drivers. It's a faster car than the G35. If that's what he was driving, he'd have walked on you even if you guys got on it at the same time.

If he didn't have a manual, add about .5-.7 seconds for an auto, and even more if it's an auto convertible.

Also, as was said above, many aren't stock and they are incomparably cheaper to mod than G35's.

 

as the owner of a 04 G35 and a 01 mustang gt, and an 88 lx 5.0 , i love the G but even stock for stock the gt wins. I meet with a group of mustangs every monday night and when i got the g thay all wanted some but i do have to say if the mustang driver slips any way or spins off the line then they see the Gfly buy. boy do i love this car also in my gt i have to admit i got beat by my wife once i spun and she nailed the lunch i was realling her in but she won.

 

I raced a new GT from a 20 mph roll to about 70. I stayed ahead the whole time. Secondly, for you 5AT owners, I know the manumatic lets you redline each gear, but you have to remember that a 5-3 downshift in the 5AT does not have the same effect in the 6MT. The 6MT's third gear (1.624:1 )
is more agressive than the 5AT's 3rd gear (1.471:1)

first off, if you are cruising in the left lane (passing lane) and somebody flashes get out of the way!

is your ego that big to think nobody is going to want to go faster???

Personally I like having somebody faster in front, kind of an early warning system.

And what is the deal with all the street racing based topics??? If you want to race take it to the TRACK. There are plenty of drag strips, road courses and autocrosses these days. What is the fascination with racing on the street? I guess it is easier to win on the street....

It doesn't matter what kind of mustang it was.....

He was drafting you on the way up and coming at a speed that you were not doing... You also have to remember you are taking all the wind because you are in the front of him..so no matter what, he was going to jump you... but then it would be who's car has better top end when he got next to you..... even though he still has a little advantage over you because he was drafting you.

stock gts run at best a low 14 or so w/ really good driver. not high 13's(def not stock) a sn95 cobra 96-98 has 305 stock hp and runs a mid/high 13 to a very low 14 stock! the 94-95 cobra run a little slower due to the 5.0 engine prodicung less hp. and if it was an 03+ cobra forget about beating one of those stock unless you have all the bolt ons and an excellent tuned SC or Turbo and excellent driver, they pull high 12's stock all day! and dont be discouraged from loosing from a roll either, mustangs especially cobras are beasts froma roll, problem is traction with mustangs, your best bet is from a dig to get one if you have good driving skills!

 

Amen to that! The left lane is for passing and slower traffic needs to keep right. Even if I'm in the left lane going 85MPH, if some guy comes up behind me and wants to go 100 and I've got room to get out of his way I will.

Moving on, yeah Mustangs are pretty fast so it's no surprise especially if he had a 1 sec. jump on you. You might have been able to keep up if you were in MM mode.

 

Jeez, it sounds like this guy is just trying to pass and you're turning into a race. It's a good thing it didn't turn into some kind of road rage incident. Next time, if you're in the left lane and the driver behind you is going faster, MOVE OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I hardly do highway race since our car's engine are not designed like mustang's big displacement...IMHO ask a mustang to go in to twisties see what happens...haha

I raced one when I first got my Vortech thinking I would have a good race since I was upgraded. I was really suprised how slow it was.
