Hey guys,
Driving home last night my navigation screen flashed a message about overheating so I immediately pulled over and let it cool down. After that I drove the car with the engine heat only spiking about one bar for a minute or so. Today I left the house and drove for about 10 minutes before it started to overheat again. About a week ago my mechanic installed an external block heater/circulating pump, so the only solution I can come up with is that air from the pump could be causing hot spots in the engine. I tried cracking the radiator cap and running the engine on an incline to release any trapped air, but it didn't make any difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's Christmas time, so it will be a while before I can get into a shop to have someone else check. Anything that I could do at home to solve the problem would be great. Thanks a ton guys.

I believe there is a air relief plug located on the heater hose, try that. Hopefully he didn't remove it to put the heater in. And of course check fluid level on coolant overflow bottle and top off rad with a mixture of 50/50 coolant and water.

 

Thanks a ton for the response. Where is the heater hose? I tried looking through my service manual, but it didn't say anything. Is there anyway you could help me identify it?

 

i say bleed your whole radiator system.

 

The air relief plug is near the back of the engine on the passenger side, just across (towards the motor) from where the battery is located. The plug is opened using a Phillips screw driver. just open it until coolant flow out, don't have the engine running.

Or follow the electrical plug for the inline water heater, he probably installed the heater into the coolant line near the relief plug.

Maybe the inline heater/ recirculation pump is interfering with the flow of coolant causing the problem.

Anyhow if you can't solve it get it in quickly to Infinity or a good repair shop, you really don't want to chance overheating it and risk doing some very expensive damage to your motor.
