whistling noise

hey...just bought a 2004 coupe and very happy with it. This baby is fantastic and absolutely I have no regrets! Well, there's no problems with it except a few creaks here and there that people have talked about already...but I noticed taht there is little whistling noise coming from the passenger's side. I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem...I dunno I think it might be a bad window sealing or something.

Re: whistling noise

Nah, I don't think it's that. It's coming from the back passenger side and it'll come sporatically...but definately from time to time when I'm on the highway.

Re: whistling noise

really? I don't really know if it's that too...it sounds like it is coming from the window, not anything from the engine. When you are traveling at high speeds, the wind cut seems to be getting through the window or something even if they are closed all the way. It's very strange..

Re: whistling noise

Common problem with the coupe. Mine is the driver side window. Used to drive me nuts! Now I just turn the stereo a little louder and seem to drawn out the noise. Some people had it fixed by the dealer to just had the same problem in a few weeks/month.

Re: whistling noise

i have this problem too, on the driver's side.
i studied and measured the weather stripping very carefully and found that there is very slight gap at the top/rear of my window, between the top rear edge of the glass and the round rubber sealing part. In addition, the weather stripping is visible at the top of the window when the window is rolled up. On the passenger's side that's not visible.

Oh and when I say gap, I'm only saying that there's a space there: the rear edge of the glass doesnt push against the round part of rubber. There's rubber under it, so it's sealing fine. I'm thinking the air is just falling into the gap causing the whistle. I'll try to take some pics since this is hard to describe. Maybe you all can look at your windows and see if you see any small variations like mine that might account for this.

Re: whistling noise

i have the same problem, but mine is coming from the driver's side. I just got the rattles supposely fixed in the back, but it still rattles. I don't even bother anymore with the wind sound. if i take it to the dealer, they're probably just make it worst.

Re: whistling noise

I kind of know what you're talking about, but a picture would be good to describe it better if you could get it. But in any case, is there really no way to get rid of the sound? It's a little annoying but I have to say it's better than the subaru forester taht we use as a beater car...that thing's got wind cut coming from every window...but if someone's got a way to get rid of it, great, because I'm sure what you all said about bringing to the dealer...they probably won't help it at all...

thanks,
Jon

I have it on both sides...I also get water come in the corners in the exact same spot when I go through touchless car washes. It's going in to the dealer next Saturday to have both side window frame seals replaced. Hopefully it will help/fix the problem.

Dealer said it is a very common problem with coupes because of the frameless glass...kind of ****ty in my opinion since my old celica, which was half the price, had frameless windows and it was quiet as anything and no leaks

I have the same problem, but only when the window is all the way up. roll it down like 1/8" and the rattles and whistling go away.

I have the problem with my driver side at speeds >60, I had the dealer check it out. They couldn't find anything "wrong" and there were no reports of complaints from others. From what I read here thats BS. Very frustrating. The sound really drives me nuts, like nails on a chaulkboard, thank God for the Bose stereo.

yes I have the same problem as well, they just keep replacing the seal for me, but it doesn't last that long.
