My engine needs more air

OK, so what is the best intake setup that will yield the best performance, ie. most hp gain and speed?

I have noticed since I got my car, I am getting used to the power and want more, so addicting. And I think I am going to be chasing this speed addiction for a while...... Thanks guys and gals

Re: My engine needs more air

Stock airbox. Other than that, you can bore out your cylinders or go FI.

I've done the pop charger and the Nismo CAI and neither did anything. The z tube made it sound better, but the only gains I got were going plenum and cats.

Lots of details on the above in this forum that you can search on but that's my down and dirty 2 cents.

Re: My engine needs more air

Think about it this way:
The 3.5+ inch bore [cylinder] is fed air all the way to the plenum with openings that are 3" or greater. The necking down starts in the plenum runners and then thru 2 - 1.4" diameter intake valves.

The smallest holes will have the most resistance to the outside air pressure replenishing the cylinder.

Re: My engine needs more air

When you test a cylinder head on a flow bench you simulate the restrictions in front of the head all the way out thru the air filter.

Things that restrict the air flow are primarily the intake valve diameter..............nothing else is very significant [individually] and they all add up to only 25-28" Water column roughly 1.0 psi or 6.8% total restriction INCLUDING THE INTAKE VALVES.

214 cubic inches of normally aspirated motor can only take in so much air per revolution at 4400 rpm [the most efficient point].

No matter what people who feed their families by selling you something promise.

Re: My engine needs more air

He's saying the valves are the choke point, not your intake. The factory intake rocks. If you want more air, force it, or make bigger cylinders or more efficient/bigger valves.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Maybe I'll just hold off a while and save for a FI system................

Re: My engine needs more air

The original BABELfish was from "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Adams.

It was a fish that was to be placed in one's ear to translate the incoming (foreign) language........

It in turn was taken from a much earlier storybook: The Bible.
(large tower built, affront to god, everyone cursed with a different toungue)

BTW, I think Adams' books are funnier.

Aznteaser: more air is mo' better.
