Re: 05 coupe or used M3?

M3 is a real serious car, i was just in soem guys at a car show/meet and he took me for a ride and he went up to 165 and it was still pulling, man i love the car but i just cant get over how great the g35 coupe looks and feel either!! I just wish there was M3 performance without modding or going FI fromt he factory so then it would be even faster when modded but it obviously wont happen. But i am def. going FI on any car i get if not turbo'd already, i just dont know how well the e46 engine will hold up and thats what's keeping my decision off right now to jump on gettin an m3, i might get an older e36 euro spec one with the almost current m3 engine in it right now, they are bullet proof and one of the best handling cars int he world which mag's have said comparing it to ferrari's. Turbo that bad boy and your looking at over 500+ hp with reliability.

Re: 05 coupe or used M3?

Nicely said, Loren.

The G35 coupe is one of which I am looking to buy to replace my aging daily car. I do not yet own a BMW or Infiniti but I am quite tired of seeing all these BMW/Mustang/Corvette haters (especially M3s) within this forum. I've talked to a friend who owns an M3 about some G35C drivers' opinions on his car. He found it quite amusing that no one at his forum ever mentioned a G35 coupe as a competitor. That being said, I will still choose an 05 coupe over a used M3 solely based on the Japanese reliability since I already have a 911. But for the gentleman who was trying to make this decision, my suggestion is that he should go with the used M3. Performance aside, the status and prestige factor (given the right situation and time) is "priceless". You will remember what I said when the time comes. Some may never find out. Just an opinion from an old guy.

A lot of people on these boards love M3s and Vettes. Haven't seen much talk either way on Mustangs but I'm sure people respect the Cobra.

Re: 05 coupe or used M3?

Yea i love both cars, im a car "enthusiast" not biased car owner!! People seem to get that confused when talking bad about different cars . Anyway check out this comparison, this is an SMG M3 which is almost identical to the porsche 911 targa, porsche is def. a little bit quicker but if it was a 6spd the M3 would have had much better #'s IMO, check it out, not bad! I just want to know if all of these tests are measured with launch control on the SMG, for those who dont know SMG has its own launch control program set into the SMG, very cool feature.....Here are #'s compared to the SMG to Manual, pretty similar except for the 0-100 theres a significant difference!!
0 - 60 mph 4.8 Manual / 5.0 Auto
0 - 100 mph 11.6 Manual / 12.2 Auto
0 - ¼ Mile 13.4 @ 107 mph Manual / 13.6 @ 106 mph Auto

Re: 05 coupe or used M3?

Reasons for a m3

Both are safe cars but I place my bets on germans when it comes to crashes

I spend insanely amount of time in a car so when I am stuck in traffic I rather be marveling at the nice material quality.

The bmw experience. See what the big fuss is about. We only live once how often do you really get to own an nice car. (too many bills to pay for and kids)

I don't ever want the feeling, I came so close to getting a m3 I should have gotten it. (In this case, you should ahve gotten the m3 to begin with) It is the sports coupe bench mark.

The bling factor, everyone is superficial and materialistic. (Don't argue with me on this one. If you aren't you would have purchased the sti or evo ;-)

Reasons not to get one

Expensive to maintain when warranty runs out

Might spent more time in the shop than driving. (If you buy used 01 to 03.5)

New e90 m3 is around the corner

(62000-38000)*1.06^(20) = Money you could have gotten if you saved the difference.

BMW haters will want to race or key your car all the time.

You might become too obessed in parking hella far, spending way too much time waxing, conditioning your 60k dollar investment. (Lack of life)
