Help! Overheating

I changed out my spark plugs this morning and everything was all dandy for about 45 miles and tonight on the way home, there was mad traffic and i was sitting idle for about 10minutes. Then all of a sudden, I start hearing boiling water dripping or something and smoke started coming out of the hood. Water temp gauge was all the way at high and check engine light came on.

Any ideas? Maybe I forgot to plug a hose back in or there's a leak somewhere?

Def sounds like a hose, if you here dripping as well. leaking through hose and dripping on a hot part of the motor like tour exhaust or block.

Temp gauge maxed out and smoke coming from the engine compartment, gotta be a hose loose or broken. Probably too late but you never want to shut off the engine and add water, gotta keep it running while filling radiator. Cracked heads can be a costly mistake which is the result of adding water to an over heated engine without it running....
