Looking into joining the G family in the near future, have some ?s.

Been doing a lot of reading and a lot of looking, and think I've settled on a G35 coupe. Was also looking at E46 M3, 335i, Evo, Sti, etc, but I'm wanting to stay under $20k, and wanting something with some luxury, and I think the G fits the bill, although I'm not thrilled about moving to something slower than my 2000 Z28. :/

Anyway, I've been talking to a guy with a '04 with 60K miles...which is more than I was wanting, I was thinking more like 30-40k. But really, isn't it basically a Nissan as far as reliability goes?

The car looks nice and clean, has $3k rims, exhaust, other minor mods, etc. He's asking $17k. Thing is, it's a good 10 hour drive away or so, so I can't exactly just go check it out. This seems a little high to me, what say you guys?

Too high on the price. Also, you'll have a tough time finding an 04 with 30-40K miles. Doesn't mean they are not out there, you'll just have to be diligent and look around.

Well, 05-06 would be nice, if I could find a nice one under $20k, which I think is doable. Is there that much of a difference between 03-04 and 05-06?

I would recommend going to the 05-07. They have the nicer aluminum interiors instead of the plastice in the 03-04's. 06-07 have 19" rims and more aggressive front fascia if you have the sport tuned suspension package....maybe the 05 as well....not sure.

i picked up a 05 w/ under 30K miles completely stock other then upgraded intake and grounding kit for 19500 in november - and the car was fully loaded and in absolutely perfect condition (no dings, scratches, all maintenance done).

you could easily pick up a 05 with similar miles although it is hard to find, or a 06 with slightly higher miles. just don't settle, wait for a while to find the right one. took me a good year to finally decide on this one, gotta say, its perfect.

i'd say look for a 05 or 06 with less then 40 K miles for around 18,000-19,000 from a private seller. sometimes you get an unreal deal, but always remember, you get what you pay for.

mine was 14k with only 8k miles on it, but mine was salvaged, but got completely fixed and im still rockin it. If its 17k and under 40k miles than go for it.

It took me four months searching all the way to the end of the internet and back, twice, to fine the one I wanted.

Got an 05 fully loaded navi and all with 26k on the clock for 21K out the door. I had to fly to FL to get it though. The drive back was really nice.

Assuming the rims are worth $3k, the car is $14k, which isn't too bad price-wise.

You can find a decent 06' with low mileage for about 23-24K. Lots of new members around here have bought older cars with high mileage and then YIKES!. My 06' was in the mid thirties two and a half years ago so, at 23K right now, it's a steal. Look at it this way, it was a 40K m.s.r.p. car orginally.
If you're on a tight budget a cheaper car would be a wiser choice. Repair cost are high and so are mods, probably not worth it for you at this time.

If you go to the "just bought a G, what did you pay" thread, you'll see what people are paying for their cars.

Example- My 2004.5 with 43k miles cost me $16k.

Well, it's not that I'm on a tight budget per se, I would just prefer to keep it around there. But if mileage is that big of a deal, I could swing low 20s.

i believe the 2004.5 is used to signify a change they made to the AT shift ****, eliminating the huge one with the button on the side and going for a smaller front facing button.

^ atleast thats what i remember back when i was looking in 2004...decided to go with an 05 though.

get a 2005 if you can, they have better tails and front bumper with the same interior as the 06+.

and try to haggle a clear bra install on the front if you can, otherwise the bumper will be destroyed by rocks and ****.

That being the case, check out autotrader to get an idea of pricing in your state. You should be able to find something in good shape, low mileage, the color you prefer, with sport and premium package. Get it as loaded as you can swing, doing the 06' headlight, taillight upgrades can be costly and a pain.
