Newbie needing suggestions

Hey guys!

I am new to the site and wanted to introduce my G.

I just got it like a week ago – 06 OB 6MT (42k miles)

I checked the service bulletin and my VIN number falls within the range of engines plagued by the oil consumption issue so I’m keeping my eyes on my dip stick but I’ve been loving my car every since I got it!!!!!

I have uploaded a few of the dealer pics so you can check it out (I will upload more [higher quality] pics once I get a chance)

I’m in a slight dilemma and need your guys help/opinion:

The car came with a Stillen exhaust (it sounds good – but I’ve always had a soft spot for the Nismo Exhaust) – I’ve heard a few clips on youtube and I think the NISMO sounds better. Also – the Stillen sticks out a little further than the NISMO (with the 6” extension pipe to make it fit the G) – so I’m leaning towards taking the Stillen off and buying a NISMO – but not really sure if its worth it.

What do you guys think?

FYI – if I DO get the NISMO – I’ll be selling the Stillen for WAY cheap (have no room at my house to keep it so I’ll gladly sell it to who ever wants it)

Welcome to G35Driver!

Exhaust really comes down to personal preference. I have the HKS system and I LOVE it.

If you like the way the NISMO sounds than go with that..

@ Joe - you were first - so if i decide to get rid of it - its yours!

@ apro - true............. I guess i need to hear a NISMO in real life to make my decision........ most people who have it love it - so that says a lot. as far as HP gains - I think the NISMO is rated at 6 HP and 3.5 LB's TQ. People SAY the Stillen is close to 20 RWHP..... but havent seen any real stats online confirming that..... so.......we'll see......hopefully when I go to the next meet - someone will have a NISMO and I can hear it then...

Welcome to driver carlos....=^)

A few years ago when magazines were doing installs with the Stillen dual system the dyno figures were closer to 18 RWHP. The Stillen system does sound good and is very well made. If you don't like how the tips stick out have a muffler shop shorten them for you. I wouldn't switch to the Nismo if it were mine....less HP gains and the sound isn't that different....

OC means "Oil Consumption!" There's no reason to take the OC test unless our OB coupe is using oil between changes....

^ +1 what Gary said.

only reason I'm going to do it is because when I first got the car almost 2 weeks ago, I didn’t immediately check the oil to see where the level was. I just checked it Monday after I let it sit for about 15 minutes after I got home from work and it read about ¾ on the dip stick. The dealership could have just NOT filled it completely up (as some places don’t like to fill completely or over fill) so that’s why I’m keeping my eye on it. (could just be me being overly paranoid) I’ll wait and see if it goes down any further when I check it again this weekend (its been about a full work week of hard driving so if its drinking oil, I should see it now) .

But yeah……….. there are LOTS of threads, sticky’s, posts, and even the TSB related to the OC issues with the ‘rev up’ engines.

so - I originally got my oil changed at 43,178 miles (2/23/2010), at about 45K miles, I took my car to Greenville NC for Easter -8 hour trip averaging about 90 MPH the entire time (wanted to see how she would act on a road trip and really get a feel for the car - spend some time with it outside of the city) was there for 4 days - didn't drive much while I was there, came back to ATL - checked my oil when I got back home and it was about a quart low

all in all - this trip was over 1K miles, and I was averaging some (kinda) high speeds for the entire duration (going and coming) - should I freak out and go in for an OC test? or am I just being super ****? (by reading ALL the posts about OC for REV-UP engines, if I recall correctly, I think you need to average losing oil within 1K miles for them to even listen to you - and I'm deffinatley not burning oil that fast - just want the best for my baby and take care of her as much as possible )

I'm at 46,143 miles now (as of this post) and I've been driving my car as I typically would since I been back in ATL (shifting at like 3500 - 4000 RPM - like I usual do) and i don't hear any weird knocking from the ENGINE or anything - runs as SMOOTH as it did when I got it........ (well its not the quietest engine in the world, I hear like a "chain" winding down as I shut off the engine, and I constantly hear a slight 'spinning' noise at idle - nothing to complain about....just saying, these are the noises I have become familiar with and there has been no NEW additions to noises or anything that stands out and grabs my attention)
