Re: Just finished painting my car (pics)

I stripped the whole car down. Took the hood, fenders, trunk, and doors off of the car and sprayed the inside of them. Reassembled the whole car and painted the outside after that. I used Sikkens paint to do my car, and no the wheels are polished aluminum not chrome.

Re: Just finished painting my car (pics)

sikkens paint is really good but the paint is very expensive. I have been shooting Sikkens for almost ten years now and haven't really shot anything else so I wouldn't know how it compares to other brands of paint. One thing is for sure this paint lasts a very long time. As for the engine bay I don't think I'll be doing that as I have no access to pulling the motor out, I don't plan on doing any car shows or anything so I really don't mind.

Re: Just finished painting my car (pics)

They just came out with a new clear called Vision clear. It is a high solid clear that uses one hardener and one activator no matter the size of the job. It dries in 5 minutes at 140 degrees, after that let it cool down and you can reassemble and buff no problem. The bad thing about this clear is that when it dries it gets rock hard and is pretty hard to buff out and it is expensive as hell, I believe it' s like $80 per sprayable quart. A quart of this clear cost us $85 and the gallon of hardener is somewhere around $330 not sure what the activator cost. You need to mix this clear by weight not by a measuring stick. Ask your jobber for some of this and give it a try, it lays down like glass.

Re: Just finished painting my car (pics)

Yeah G352NV is right it will cost you around 4K-5K for a complete paint job if you want it done right. You might be able to find painters who do side jobs and would cost you around half of what a shop will charge you.
