CD player = dead

Let me start by mentioning I have a 2005 coupe with 40k on it. Last week, my cd player started acting weird. During a playing CD, the head unit started to fade out then cut off. It wouldn't turn back on until I cut the car off and started it back up. Then a week later,it would not play any cd's and kept saying "eject", but wouldn't when I tried. After a day of this I thought to give it another try. Only this time, it said "check disk", and still wouldn't play. Now, if I press CD my whole head unit just turns off. Everything else works so Iv been listening to my radio and ipod but why did my cd player take a crap on me at only 40,000 miles? This is ridiculous considering it is a $35000-$40,000 car at its time, new. Our old Yukon denali had 124k on it and cd player ran perfect. Unfortunately my warranty has run out, and I have to pay either $500 for another one, or just get an aftermarket HU.

yea, my 06 has 39K on it and the bose cd player always malfunctions. everytime I restart my car it changes cds, or it will get disc reading error and wont play any cds. Im not sure if its covered by warranty but I was going to call the dealership up.

Does anyone know if the warranty is still valid if I am the 3rd owner?

Welcome to the club. The audiovox system for our CDs are known to take a crap sooner or later. Unfortunately, they take the CDS down with them as well and are extremely expensive to repair. Unless you have the extended elite warranty, many owners eventually have to live with the CD player not working or replace it with an aftermarket.

are you saying the cd player will damage cd's that get played in them?

Unfortunately once you put an aftermarket headunit in you need to change out the rest of the system. I have double din eclipse screen from a few years back when they had the 30g harddrive(wish they still made them with the harddrive). Unfortunately the screen is slighlty smaller than the jdm doubledin i bought and there are no preouts for an aftermarket amp. So if I use that I would need to use the headunit amp and rerun wires to power the speakers(whitch I want to replace with my ADS speakers).

It's safe to say that the stock head unit is a steaming pile of crap.

Very annoying. You would think the car could come with a functional, lasting cd player..

I cant afford either a stock HU or aftermarket. And when I can, I can't see myself dropping nearly $1,000 on an aftermarket one. Plenty of other things I could do with that money. I guess the radio will work for now

Try one of the CD cleaner disks. I had some of the same problems last summer and after using the cleaning disc, the unit started working fine and it has been ever since. I think most of the time, moisture and dust get on the reading lense and it cannot read the disc.
