Continental Extreme Contacts Tires

Guys,

Anyone know anything about these tires? I was thinking of putting them on to handle the winter season in my area so I would not have to switch back and forth from snows. Also, I think they offer them in just 235/45 for the front? Is that ok to go the extra 10 MM? What about 255/45 in the rear?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Continental Extreme Contacts Tires

According to tire rack, they come in 245/40-18, which is the same as a 225/45-18.

The reviews on tire-rack showed people complaining about flat-spotting during cold weather. Because of that, I opted for the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season. People had nothing but good things to say about that. I was going to get the Yokohama AVS db2, since I have those on my other car, and love them. But the tirerack thingy shows them as having less handling performance thant he pilot sport all seasons. Though they do rate a little higher snow grip...

I am doing research on a good A/S tire to put on a new set of rims for my car. I am doing some research on the Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S tire. Good reviews at TireRack. I have not been able to find anyone running these however.

Just another tire to consider.

Re: Continental Extreme Contacts Tires

I traded in a '99 Mercedes Benz C280 sport sedan on my '04 G35 coupe in July. Earlier this year I went to "+1" 17" P-zero neros on the MB (had 205-55/16 Kuhmo Ecsta Supras, went to 225-45/17).

I really liked the Pirellis: pretty quiet, very good traction wet or dry, excellent steering response, good looking tread and a good value (I think $650 out the door for 4 mounted and balanced). Did not have a chance to try them in snow however but wet performance was really good.

Generally I would not have sought out a M+S tire as I think they are a poor compromise, but I live in Seattle where we get little snow. My experiences is it's not worth compromising on tires for snow traction for the few days we get. Wet/dry perf is far more the norm and more important IMO.

Although my experiece with the p zero neros were on a different car than the G35c, I would seriously consider them when my OEM Pilots wear out (they are really freakin' noisy but handle great IMO).

Check out the reviews/comments on tirerack.com.

Re: Continental Extreme Contacts Tires

I have them on my coupe. Use 235/40-18 on the front with 245/45-18 on the rear. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we only had one very mild snow day after I got them so I can't really tell you how they are in snow (HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN STOCK). I'm sure that in dry weather they don't handle as good as the stock tires, but I don't notice it.

I have them and absolutely love them. I've had them for about 15K miles and they show very little signs of wear. My original Pilots were replaced at 15K, and didn't handle at all in the snow.
