Any Honda or ex Honda owners...I need Assistance

My son just recently bought a used 2002 Honda civic ex coupe.....Its perfect for his needs. But the other day the low beam on the Drivers side blew out.....

So, I figured, if I can swap out the bulbs on my G, this should be a piece of cake..................WRONG!!!!

Any one have any idea how to get the bulb out....
First off, the power steering resevoir is right in the way....
It doesn't look like you can reach it from underneath the car...
The only way it seems possible is to remove the whole headlamp assembly............Could that be possible? I mean thats a lot of work to get at a bulb.....

If anyone here has any insight as to the replacement of the bulb, it would be appreciated......
Thanks in advance.....

I would have posted this on a Honda forum, but I didn't want to register just to be ranked about a noob asking about a simple bulb replacement......j/k

Re: Any Honda or ex Honda owners...I need Assistance

I have a '96 Accord, so the newer Civic may be different...more modern....more complicated & frustrating!!

My accord's bulbs are held on by these big plastic collars that you have to squeeze and turn about 20 degrees. Then the bulb slides out and you replace it. They are a bitch to turn though and one side has the battery in the way.

Google 'civic bulb replacement' or something, and also go to the library or bookstore and check if they have any repair manuals (Chilton, etc). Another idea is to go to the dealership and ask a mechanic how to do it. Hopefully you will find a nice guy who will explain it.

PS -- When my bulb burned out, I replaced it with Sylvania SilverStar bulbs, $20/ea vs. $10/ea for regular. But they are much whiter and brighter so I like them. I always thought the orig. headlights were too dim.

Thanks P.....
it seems the back of the housing has this large rubber pc., and the wiring harness plug is in the middle. But how to access the area......there is no way in hell you can reach it without taking the powersteering fluid resevoir off......
I'll check google.....maybe they will have some more info
Thanks for the quick response..

power steering fluid should be able to slide off , I also have a 2000 civic. on mine you just pull the rubber cover then press and twist the metal thing that holds the bulb. I use a H4 bulb. should be easy all hondas are easy to tinker with

I know to change the blinker bulbs in a civic you have to go through the wheel liner. I remember on the 99-00 civics the powersteering fluid can be moved a little off it's bracket. But either way its a PITA to change a headlight bulb in that car

Lift up on the resevoir and pull it out of the way.
Theres a little button you need to push to get the harness off. Then the round cover on the back of the bulbs pulls right off, exposing the back of the bulb. Then theres a little lever(like a gate hook) that holds the bulb in place. Move it out of the way, pull the bulb out, replace it and do everything all over again, backwards
