You are just building up a tolerance to the speed. Go and test drive a Civic and remember what slow is.

Hahaha yea dude...i know EXACTLY how you feel.....so dont worry, to be honest with you...it has always seemed like a pretty sluggish car to me...i think cuz the car is so heavy.. But yea dude, whenever i feel really down about it...i just drive my friends IS300 to make me feel better about my G!

Re: I think my G officially feels slow now

12K miles on my car and the acceleration of this car is still downright furious to me. Punch it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the acceleration is just devastating, IMO.

A few things that help:
-Turn A/C off.
-Let the ECU know that you want maximum performance (I usually do this by holding 1st gear at 3K rpm for a seconds and then I just whail on it).
-Make sure tire pressures are at 35psi (I run at 36psi cold).
-If you got any passengers, kick 'em out. Reduces weight and keeps them out of danger
.
I have also gotten used to the speed, but I'm still loving the car and its performance. The only mod I plan to do is probably the Z-Tube sometime soon. Other than that, everything is perfect for me in terms of power...the sounds are great, the feel is great, and the actual performance is great.

Its a different power from my sisters 330ci. even with 4 passengers in the bmw, it still pulls like I'm the only one in there.

Re: I think my G officially feels slow now

That's because BMW's have good low-end torque. Max torque for a 330 BMW is at 3,500rpm whereas our car's max torque is 4,800rpm. Keep in mind that torque is what you feel but real power (horsepower) is what you see (meaning, seeing the needles -rpm and speed- climb). I've seen a lot of people, in front of my eyes, think a certain car is not so fast because they just punch it and they want to feel the power, but the speedometer really is rising quite quickly.

Anyways, I raced a 330Ci (auto) once and I toasted it pretty significantly.

Yea, i know because I beat my sisters 330ci by at least 2-3 cars easy up to 70mph.

I'm just saying, with 4 ppl in a g35, it will feel very sluggish for normal driving...

Re: I think my G officially feels slow now

One thing I notice is cars from luxury brands often do such a good job w/ comfort & isolation that they don't seem as fast as they really are. Also, cars w/ torque steer (ie FWD) give a false impression of speed because you feel everything so much more (ie vibrations in steering wheel).

Also, people eventually get used to a car's power. Even if you have a very powerful car, eventually it seems ordinary.

Re: I think my G officially feels slow now

I quickly realized how powerful our cars are after driving a rental car last weekend. A measly Oldsmobile Alero with a 2.2, 140hp motor. I would floor the thing on the highway onramp, and it would just barely creep forward. I love my G35.

Moog, I know exactly how you feel because we've got a beater car whcih is the subaru forester..2.5 liter 165hp engine and after driving the G for a while and getting back into the subie...I was like damn...this thing is that much slower. Oh and btw, saw the pics of your car - love those gold rims.

I just had to drive my g/f's RSX (not type S) and I found myself trying to make passes on the freeway that just were impossible. Its nice to have the power in the G at ANY gear...you just go "I want to be over there right now", step on the gas, and you glide right over.
