Considering G35 coupe

Hey all,

Well, as I get older, the more and more I'm getting tired of my Mustang GT. I just need something that isn't as flashy, but still looks great and has powerful performance. I basically want sporty but not as much flash as a GT...something that's respectable if I need to take a client out to lunch, etc.

So that has led me here: I've been on the forums for a few days, reading up about what you guys have to say, and basically I'm just looking for more opinion. If you could get your G again, would you? What are the car's direct competitors? I'm also considering the Pontiac GTO, but it's probably too bland looking, although a great performer.

What other vehicles did you consider before opting for the G35? Main reason I'm curious is that a dealer has offered me a 2004 G35 coupe w/ navi for $29k plus 10k for my trade. So I can get into a new car for under $20k. Not too shabby.

Aside from the Mustang's $10K trade value (which may be very low, which could explain the deal), $29K for a new G35C w/nav is a steal. Used ones with 10K+ miles are selling for more than that. Sticker on the car is around $37K if I'm not mistaken. It doesn't quite add up to me...

Damn you're getting a 10k trade in value for a 97 mustang. That's a damn good price for that car. If you can get that deal from that dealer then go ahead and get it you can't beat that price of 29k w/ navi. Which dealer is it maybe I should buy another one cause it's such a steal for that price?

Re: Considering G35 coupe

The reason for the extra cheap price is, well, insider's discount I guess. My Dad has done business with the owner of the dealership, so I can get one at cost for the dealership plus a certain percentage to cover their stocking fees, taxes, etc. Met with him last weekend and that's where we got the price. $10k for a trade-in is also higher than normal, most dealers will offer like $8k until you complain and threaten to storm out, so he said that's probably the maximum he could allow. I don't have any of this in writing, so the numbers I'm sure will tweak a bit.

Any other thoughts, comments, concerns?

Re: Considering G35 coupe

I just had the exact situation, it seems... had a very good condition '97 Mustang GT coupe and traded it in on my 6MT.

If he's offering you $10K for your car, jump on it. I can't imagine what the drop top adds to the KBB value, but a pristine version of my coupe was listed at $5K trade in. I got about $4K for mine towards my coupe (had a $37K sticker, but we negotiated awhile)...

So the sticker on the G is $29K with Navi? I would have assumed that it has the premium package on it, but that's the lowest price I've heard of by far... if it's used, how many miles? Do you have a list of options?

It's a great ride... take one for a test drive if they'll let you. And it's definitely on another level apart from the Mustang as far as style.

I agree about the 10k trade-in on your GT being a good deal...I traded in my 02 mustang GT with 7k miles and I only got 15k for mine.

Re: Considering G35 coupe

Like I said, part of the reason for the good treatment is because they've been in business together before... Part of the reason he's probably offering so much is due to the condition of my car. Since he knows me, he knows how well it was taken care of. Everything about it is in very good shape, so I think he thinks it's generous, but not exorbitantly so. The car has low miles, glossy paint, and the vert top is in great shape, etc etc etc. Last year I had a Subaru dealership offer me 10k for it, and to them I was just some guy, lol...
