Quick Question

i've read various threads and done some searching, but haven't found a solid answer, and i admit my knowledge is limited, so take it easy with the low-blows.
Anyways, I've had my G for about a year, its a 2005 with the sport package, but to my knowledge, no underside diffusers, and there is no spoiler. I believe i just have the sport suspension. And i'm not entirely sure if i have a revup motor? i think thats only for the 6mt right? Correct me if i'm wrong

After a year i've finally gotten bored and want to start doing some modding. I dont have a ton of money to play around with, and i'm definitely willing to do some things on my own so i can save money and learn!
What i'm looking for performance wise is better throttle response and just a slightly deeper exhaust sound. I've looked into motordyne for their plennum spacers but i'm not sure what's best. I've read mixed reviews on their effect towards performance. i'm also looking at the z-tube and K&N drop in filter. Anything i'm missing or any good suggestions?
Advice is much appreciated.

After i tackle performance i'm gonna start with some lighting mods and other various things.
Again, suggestions much appreciated.

yah, searching would be helpful, but I'll get you started.
-you do not have the revup if you have an 05 AT.
-If you do have an AT, some say grounding kits help with throttle response.
-A MD plenum spacer is a great bang for the buck. Go for the 5/16 iso thermal (makes better power throughout the entire rpm range, helps keep the plenum cooler).
-Z tube will be good with in helping you achieve a little louder exhaust note.

If you can find a Y-pipe from a 2007-2008 350Z (HR motor), you will find it a nice, cheap mod to improve throttle response, and some say it deepends the exhaust note as well, though I believe that's mainly for sedan owners. Though you may have to be a bit persistent, you should be able to find a used one for $100-125 from one of the 350Z forums, and it's an easy install.

As others have mentioned, a 5/16 Motordyne Plenum Spacer is a great bang-for-the-buck mod, at least in terms of performance above 3500 RPM. Opens up the top end nicely.

Great advice above and I would add get a pair of aftermarket sway bars. Hotchkis, Stillen, or Motordyne are all good. You will be amazed at how much that simple change will improve the handling dynamic of your car.

thanks for all the helpful advice. I'm definitely looking into the 5/16 iso thermal spacer. Question about that though, since i live in chicago, should i consider the copper option because of our cold weather? or is it not important.

z tube is something that sounds pretty significant in our cars.

What are your thoughts on Grouding kits? some people say they're useless, other people come up with a list of purposes for these.

Also, it seems like messing with the exhaust on our cars is a pretty delicate situation. Everything seems like it could be really hit or miss. For instance i saw some kid on here put some flowmaster muffler(s) on his ride that made a nice sound, yet others stood on firm ground stating it hindered performance. I'm not too interested in being the car that bursts eardrums, but the y-pipe idea sounds interesting. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the y-pipe is actually underneath the car right? Connects the muffler to the cats?

The y-pipe connects the cats to the rest of your exhaust system. IMHO save your money for a cat-back exhaust system (true dual ie Stillen, HKS, ect.). It will be slightly louder than stock but you will have more noticeable gains. The 5/16 spacer is also a good "bang for the buck" modd. As far as suspension modds - IMO sway bars are another great value for the price. Personally I am not a big promoter of grounding kits.. I havn't seen solid evidence of an performance increases. Someone else may chime in who runs one....
