Re: 0-60 times for G35 COUPE

IF the driver of the manual launches properly without bogging the engine or without excessive wheelspin and doesn't miss the 1-2 shift, the manual should be faster than the auto.

American car's autos do not equal the manuals as far as power to the wheels. Autos simply aren't as efficient at transferring the power, but they're getting closer. Dynos of LS1 powered auto f-bodies occasionally hit 300RWHP stock, but the manuals are almost always 300+ stock. Use of performance oriented torque converters can more than make up for the difference, however, noticable loss in drivability and gas mileage invariably occur.

LS1 and LT1 powered vehicles (specifically f-bodies and Corvettes) are tricky beasts to learn to launch with 6 speeds. The 4L60E automatic is a very efficient auto transmission stock as long as you don't over power it (450+ hp) and is easy to launch. I know, I presently own a modded '96 auto LT1 powered Z28 and have driven countless LS1 and LT1 powered Corvettes, f-bodies, and the occasional Impala SS (auto only) with autos and manuals and know that the launching the 6 speed is tricky and takes some getting used to (that and the track prep BETTER be good, too) launch fast without too much wheelspin. In my neck of the woods, equally modded LS1/LT1 manuals with good drivers outperform the autos both at the track (1/8 and 1/4 mile) and on dynos.

Magazines don't spend a tremendous amount of time trying to eek out the best 0-60 or 1/4 mile times unless the rag is a true performance magazine. .3 second (in 0-60 and/or 1/4 mile) disparity could be a bad launch or bad traction surface or even atmospheric conditions. I believe Car & Driver's 0-60 time in the 2002 Z06 was sub 4 second (3.9 if I remember correctly), but when Motor Trend did the new Viper/Z06 shoot-out, they could only muster a 4.5 0-60 out of the Z06. Heck, I think I remember reading somewhere that some magazine only got a 13.0 1/4 mile for the Z06. GM High Tech Performance got a 12.8 1/4 mile out of a stock '98 Z28. Tell me a well-driven Z06 will lose to a Z28 in the 1/4 mile!

The reason why some magazines or individuals get different acceleration time has to do with the different temperatures (colder air = more power), higher elevations (less power), and of course driver experience.

Funny thing today, i was reading R&T and they had 0-60 times for the M45 set at 5.8 in a write up and then 6.1 in the back under test track data in the same maganazine so that tells you how accurate they really are!

Maybe it was different conditions for the times?
