they tell you to use your old ballast... but you would also need to use the wiring to the bulb itself... you would need to take it out from the inside of your old headlights and replace it in your new one..after that, yes it's plug n' play... i would also highly recommend to get 6000k bulbs.. they look really good on those projectors...

I'm sorry but I've got a couple of probably stupid questions. I have a copy of the workshop manual but cannot locate the ballast on the diagram. Where is the ballast located? Is it the part called HID C/U? What are the specific recommended 6000k bulbs, brand, model and best vendor. I will be having the headlights installed by a body shop...I'm going to get the front bumper cover stripped and painted at the same time. Just want to be sure to have the info before I leave it up to them to do the install.

Thanks for the help.....that's what happens when you post a thread highly recommended upgrade!!!

the ballast is located on the bottom... 3 screws removes it.. don't forget to take the wiring attached to it as well.. as far as brand for the 6000k bulb, doesn't really matter.. just make sure you get the d2s and not the d2r... or you can get one that's both.. i bought a d2r from amazon and used it on my 04 headlights and when i bought my projectors, i knew i had to buy a d2s... but when i inspected my bulb, it had extra notches and it fit perfectly on my projectors.. i'll post some pics later regarding the different notches on the d2r and d2s..

Philips Ultinon 6000k D2S Bulb

A friend was able to fit D2R in the projectors but the output will not be as good since they are made for reflectors.

Looks great, but I am going to dissagree with everyone saying it is a must for 03-05s. Yes I know the benefits, the positives of projectors, but I am staying with my 05 headlights and taillights.

If I had an 03-04 maybe, but since my 05 has all the original styling with all the power, motor, interior and fixes to the creaks and noises the 06-07 has, I am keeping mine the way it is. If anything, a projector retrofit would be a better option for the 03-05 to keep the originality of our cars...that is, if you are into that kind of thing! hahahaa

Not sure I understand your reasoning. I have an 05 like you and as far as the exterior is concerned, your car looks exactly like an 03-04. So, what does the motor and interior have to do with changing out your headlights? Not arguing with you here, just wondering what you mean...

these are the stock bulbs that came with the headlights and as you can see from this pics, the d2r on the left has a "strip" on it's lenses to focus the light since it uses reflective housing which the d2s does not have... also you can see they both have different "half-moon" notches, d2s has it on the right, d2r is on the left (from the pics)... my bulb which i bought from amazon has 4 notches so i just transferred it to my projectors with no problem.. i could not recall if it had the strip though...

why do a "retrofit" when you can buy the projectors oem? unless you want that light strip on the side, i can understand... but seriously, the g looks 100x better with the projectors... i think i'm starting to become a staunch advocate of the projectors, ... i saw a g today without one and wanted to tell the guy to buy projectors...

I'd still really like some projectors for my car, the headlights are also showing their age (a bit hazy, one interior crack). Though I'm not really looking forward to all the wire splicing to make them work on my CDN spec car.

the headlights are part of the original style of G35. But the Interior updates and motor updates only improve on the original without taking away from the design, thus making it a one off year. different from the 03-04 and 06-07 (coupe only)

So you're basically saying that the 03-05 reflectors keep the originality of the G35?

basically that plus the rear taillights (which I am keeping) and the oem spoiler (if you have one). I am saying this applies to the 03-05 models. Not the 06-07. These models were unique to their own years because of their headlights, tail lights, spoiler, front bumpers sideskirts and motor and interior changes. The 03 is what caused me to want to buy a G35 but the 05 has the best of all the years of the G35. Best relating to the original styling and best of the new interior and motor...making it a unique year. That is why I was saying I wont be changing my headlights to the projectors(at least, for now).

Well g-adabout this........is your opinion, it's invalid but it is your very own! Any time you can make something better it's called an upgrade. Headlights prior to '06 need the upgrade, if for no other reason but better visibility at night. Anyone that's made this change to projectors will vouch for how much better they are, but that's just our opinion.

i'm at a loss with your reasoning here.. you just said updates are improvements from the original.. however, those updates includes exterior as well... hids with reflector housing not only blinds oncoming drivers but has too much glare.. hence, they introduced projectors, an improvement of the g's headlights design... they still kept the original design of the headlights, stacked but upgraded it...

I have a pair of 06 projectors on my 04 coupe...did anyone have alignment issues? My driver projector seems to be pointed a bit too low, perhaps to aid oncoming vehicles.

I also recoment you all go to DDMtuning and purchase the 8000k lamps. $15 can't go wrong. big difference.

=)
