Arrow Intake power loss - solved

From time to time I see in the thread: intake problem, no power w/ intake, etc
So as i re-read julys import tuner i thought i’d share the reason i picked it from the stand. its a great article that should help a lot of yall out with future decisions and troubleshooting issues - I hope it helps! initially planned to type the article out bc i didnt think it’d be online - good thing it was
( possible consider for sticky, its a fairly common issue - its yalls call) - enjoy!

Thats why MD doesnt make air intakes. Tony has stated numerous times stock intake is the best intake.

what is the difference between cai and short ram?

what would you recommend on a daily drive?

^ Short rams replace the stock air box with a conical filter, while a CAI - cold air intakes - use a long piping and draw air from outside of the engine bay usually placing the air filter below a headlight.

The longer piping of the CAI means less response, but better top end, so most people usually choose to use short rams for daily driving.

For the Gs, I would say stick with the factory box (preferably with a revup velocity stack) with Z-tube and K&N drop in filter.

This was one of the topics of discussion at our Huntington Beach meet. Using the OE once the hood is closed the only air your getting is from the bottom, that's a 1 inch diameter tube and insufficient for what's needed. Sean (sxexcx) redirects the air from the grille to the intake by drilling a hole thru the left side of the radiator mount so you get fresh/cool air via a tube. Another one of Sean's great ideas, give him a PM maybe he'll share his discovery for a $$....

Wait? Wat so u guys sayng that a short ram intake would be useless??? And the factory would be better??? I dont know a whole lot about engines so just trying to get the fact??

short is definately better for low end torque, however, full cai will be better for high end. I have done testing with similar setups on a superflow airflow bend.

For our cars, essentially yes. The stock box is pretty much the best design available for our cars performance wise. Short rams will run into problems with taking in hot air from the engine bay and you will lose power from that. Cold air intakes suffer from a lost in low end power, which at least IMO is what matters more for our cars. Now if you don't really care about a bit of power loss, and you would rather just get a cooler sound then by all means go for it. I personally run the jwt popcharger and although it loses some power in hotter conditions, I just love the sound of the intake.

O dam... I did not know that.. I do like the sound mu fujita make tho its hella nice lol but i want power not loss

I also have the full cold air intake because i just love the sound. The powerloss isnt gonna be to drastic to notice during normal driving. You might notice it on a track though.

Yes, but early ones came with a small stack and the rev ups with a taller one. Taller = better.
