OIL Consumption???

i have a 2005 coupe, and i have gotten my oil changes on time and oil has been good. But lately iv been seeing where the dipstick is just alittle under where it should be at the top. just wanting to know is this because maybe i drove it harder this time and used more oil, or is my car burning oil, or could it be that on some car the dipstick dosent have to be topped off all the time? Please if anyone knows, cause im not seeing any oil under my car and not seeing smoke coming from my exhaust. thanks

There are several threads on this exact issue.. Infact you can just search your topic title "Oil Consumption" Probably a stupid question but are you checking the dipstick while you are on a flat surface and while the engine is warm?

i do check while the car is cooled and might be a slight slant but all i need to know is if the oil isnt all the way topped off is that bad or is it alright if its alittle lower just by a fingernail length

I'm pretty sure this has been addressed by Infiniti as I just got a completely new longblock put in my car under warranty... and got a G37 loaner to thrash around for a week
