transmission problem?

ok, ive just noticed that i may have a problem with my transmission. And please, dont flame, this is just the way i drive sometimes.

ok, so im stopped, and i floor it. 1st to redline, 2nd to redline, maybe 3rd, then jump to 6th once i reach cruising speed. problem is, when i try to go into 6th, or even 5th, it wont go into the slot. my shifter just keeps popping back out. if i let the revs drop, and then rev-match, it will go in though.

is this a problem? can i get my transmission warrantied because of this "defect?"

one more thing, about half a year ago, every morning when i started my car, warmed up a bit, and drove out, i would go 1st, 3rd, 5th to keep the revs low as my car wasnt warmed up completely. when i would go in 5th for the 1st time, it would grind...but only the 1st time each morning. then, suddenly, about half a year ago, it stopped doing that(maybe due to weather or something)

anybody experience anything like this? have any suggestions? thanks.

Re: transmission problem?

I dont have a MT but my AT is acting up! When i downshift from 3-2 in manual mode it revs up for some odd reason, and when i just brake when it drops into 1st it lunges forward almost causing me an accident once! Im taking my car in this week to have them check it out! It only has 1600miles and i have had it less than a week and this should not be happening, im hoping to that i can have it warrantied, let me know if u get ur problem is diagnosted and warrantied!

Re: transmission problem?

Diamond, its completely normal what you are experiencing. The lurching occurs when you downshift from 3-2 and the auto tranny doesn't like it when you do that. 2-1 then becomes very harsh and lurchy. If you leave it in 3, it will smoothly downshift directly to 1 and you will feel no lurch. It is a natural characteristic of the tranny (many previous discussion on Freshalloy...most members had this).

I think it's "relatively" normal... From what I have read on previous posts, the transmission HATES when you skip gears. A few people have had their trannies replaced and they all said that they skipped 4th frequently. Just a thought.
