Hey Guys,
I was cruising along maybe 40mph when I let the car coast in neutral (I know you shouldn't!) coming up to a junction. After a few seconds I noticed that the car had actually cut out. Wondering has anyone ever had this happend to them? Could it be a dirty air filter or sparks maybe? Car has about 25kmiles on the clock.

 

I have an 04 6MT and have never experienced that. The only thing similar was when I was cruising and the car would almost stall. That turned out to be a bad camshaft position sensor.

 

i don't see anything wrong with cruising with the car in neutral but that's beside the point. spark plugs/air filter won't kill your engine completely, they'll just make it run like crap. you'd need something major in the fuel or elec system to kill it completely. fuel pump, MAF sensor, throttle position sensor, etc.

 

seems to me its a battery problem... Does engine turn off?

 

Yea, the engine goes off (have to turn over the key again when I came to a stop) and the steering wheel goes all heavy.

The battery isn't the original one as the previous owner bought one from Halfords.

 

similar thing happened to me yesterday, was driving about to cross a one way bridge and i felt my power cutting out and then it cut out. but just turned out i ran out of gas lol. dash said i had 1/4 tank, but guess not.
