If well maintained 100,000 miles is do-able. There are plenty of people here who have that kind of mileage. It's a fairly risky purchase though IMO.

i just got a 03 coupe with 138k miles. the engine feels great but the transmission has 3rd gear grind and the throwout bearing is loud (original clutch still). the power door lock didnt work. the headlight turn yellow internally. the seat plastic fall apart. it is also very difficult to replace front signal light. the build quality is far worst for my IS300 but it is still fun to drive

i agree with the 2nd poster
buying any car w/ such high mileage is risky
not to mention it's the 1st year production of a new generation car.
those will always have a bit more problems than later produced same generations.
are you getting it as a DD or a project car?

If you're intending on keeping it awhile like you said, just be prepared to live with some of the minor issues that may come about and/or be ready to pay for other issues that can and probably will arise. I've realized that mileage isn't necessarily as crucial by itself, but the care the car recieved ex: A good service record and how it was maintained is more important. If you can find a steal deal for the 84k mileage G then jump on it, the car is great, but just assume the risk you'll find purchasing any high mileage used car. Hopefully some others will chime in on their high mileage experiences to give you first hand info.

As far as the mileage, I think it is 17mpg city, 24mpg highway.. I usually average around 19mpg.

There are very few cars I would consider buying with that kinda mileage, unless you know the owner and how it's been maintained. I sold my Z with 125K miles on the clock, it now on it's third owner and still running....just doesn't look like it did when I owned it....

ya man, i almost bought a 90k+ mileage g. my price range was under 14g's. i found mine out in the middle of no where. it was female owned, with 67k miles on it. it need new tires and brakes asap. one dent, and a lil scrap infront of rear wheel on that panel thing. interior was great, engine was great. got her out the door. 142XX. it was my first lease (im 19), put down half and got the rest over 36 months at 220 a month. i pay 300 so i pay it off in 2yrs. i bought new tires, brake pads, rotors, belts and alignment for 800 bucks the day after i bought her.

she'll be amazing in 2-4 years... *drools*

84k is nothing for Toyotas and Hondas, my old Lexus was at 167k with zero issues before it got crumpled in the rain. Nissans I'm not so sure, but I think it should be fine as they originate from the same country and technology of its two rivals.

However, in the end it really boils down to the car's maintenance history. Go to the dealership and give them the VIN number to pull up the vehicle's maintenance history, that should give you an idea of the maintenance work completed if they took it to the dealership. Run a CarFax or AutoCheck report to see if there have been any recorded accidents, and be sure to do a thorough combover of the car to check for resprayed areas for repairs that were done under the table.

I bought mine this past February with 81,817 miles on the odo for $16,400 including tax and registration fees, and spent about $2,000 to replace the rear rotors and brake pads, rear wheel hubs, and a transmission drain-and-refill. After that it ran like a charm, and I plan to keep the car for at least another three years. There are better deals out there, but I found my desired combo (red over black with Premium Pkg. and NAV, no spoiler), so it was worth the extra couple thousand dollars. It has an immaculate maintenance record, sans for the e-brake clip coming loose that had to be repaired (hence the rear hubs). The only other thing that needs to be fixed is the driver's door lock actuator, and this is a common occurrence on our cars. In fact you should check to see if both door actuators are working, if they're not you should negotiate for a somewhat steep discount.

Keep in mind that a car that might appear to be perfect and flawless on the outside can have horrible internals ready to give out at any second. My aunt has a 2001 330Ci, it's a special-ordered car with 50k miles, no accidents and not a single scratch on it, but she hasn't had the oil changed since June 2009. -__-"

Also remember that 90k will be a big job, its about $600 at the dealership. It's stuff like spark plugs, transmission drain-and-refill, headlight aim adjustment, etc. Mine's at about 89k.

Good luck!
