Factory mud guards... your thoughts

My 04 coupe came with the factory mud guards...I thought they looked pretty cool as if it was part of an aero-kit or something... until I saw someone else driving the same car in a DG color with those mud guards. The factory 18's are too conservative for the mud guard's agressive lines, especially on the rear. It made the car look lifted and tires too narrow. I'm going to take them off tonight.

What do you think of those mud guards?

I'm 90% sure removing them will leave holes.

Re: Factory mud guards... your thoughts

I don't know how the factory installs the mudguards, but in order for the normal person (like ourselves) to install the mudguards, you do have to drill, but it's all drilling under the vehicle, where you wouldn't see no matter how hard you looked.

I forget, but there MAY be holes inside the wheel well area.. just behind the tires.. that too you wouldn't really see either though.

So, if the factory installation is the same, don't you worry about holes.. the sides of the thing are held on by double sided tape.

Personally, I really like the splash guards, and they DO help quite a bit with nastiness on the side of the car... i should know, I had no splash guards for like 3 months, and then installed them.

Noticable difference..

I love the look of the mudguards because it gives the car a much more sportier look to it. I dont have the splashguards but will be getting them soon.

Re: Factory mud guards... your thoughts

Well, took my mudguards off. The car's lines look (to me)
so much cleaner especially with the factory 18's.

Individual guards are, as I found out, installed with only
2 screws in the fender well area and 2 screws on the
bottom (the front ones have 2 clips instead of screws) along
with some 3M mounting tape. No biggie to install or remove.

There are a few holes left behind, but its not noticable...
infact, some cars come pre-drilled there so it's not out of
the ordinary to have holes around that area.

If anyone wants my brilliant silver flaps (has 1100miles on
them) let me know. $100 shipped.

Re: Factory mud guards... your thoughts

Im also thinking about getting those GS-D3's when the sports are worn out. Im using a set of GS-D3's on my Cooper-S and
they're pretty darn good for the price. much wider than your typical 225 and 245's...kinda reminds me of the S03's
i had earlier.

Re: Factory mud guards... your thoughts

Hey Kenchan,

Do you have all four or just the rear? If you have all four I'll take them. I take it that I'll just need to reapply double sided tape on them? You did say silver, right?

It's a G thang, you wouldn't understand...No Really, you won't understand unless you have one.
