So it's been a rough day...

You guys don't know me very well, but I'm a proud G35 driver like the rest of you. My brother and I had to drive to Michigan from Georgia in his 350z. The drive was fine on the way up, but all of a sudden took a turn for the worst a couple of hours ago. We stopped in Cincinatti for food. When we got back we pulled out of the parking lot and turned the corner and the car immediately died. Keep in mind he has a 6 speed mt. Our initial thought was that the battery had died, so we got a taxi and bought a new battery. That didn't fix the problem. The weird thing is there's no signs of engine problems. No warning lights or anything. He has a couple of mods such as a plenum spacer and cold air intake. All of the mods seem to be functioning properly. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? My only guess is a fuel injection issue?

with the new battery in, does the engine crank when you turn the key? if it doesn't, worst case i can think of, is your timing chain broke..

The car cranks. I'm stumped as to what could be going on. It's definitely not the timing chain because we would have heard that.

Just hit 70k on this trip. It's a possibility that it's bad gas. Either way we're stuck here because the Nissan dealer is closed till Monday.

that's good... on older cars the next thing i would check is if there was current going on the plugs.. but since that's not feasible on our cars, maybe check the wirings if anything came loose... also was there any error codes that came up? my g has the nav feature and if there was any problem, that's where the info would pop up, then car would go into limp mode and direct me to nearest infiniti dealer.. happened when my tranny went bad.. anyway gl..

I've read some people have had issues with the throttle body going bad.

Where in Cincinnati are you? If I didn't have a newborn baby to take care of this weekend I'd offer to do what I could to help out.

When you were having dinner was the Z visible where you could see it? I'm thinking someone tried to steal it by cutting a wire and it finally separated when you guys left that parking lot. Check the starter wires, that's a start. Wish I lived closer we could all stand around and scratch our heads togeather....

MAF would be my guess. If this goes bad, the ECU will shut the car down and won't let it start because it doens't think the engine is receiving air from the intake.

IF that is what it is, just buy the part from the dealer, don't pay them 100$+ to unscrew two phillips heads and unplug a wire for you.

^ Incorrect. Car will run without the MAF connected...just very badly in limp mode.

djamps- Correct, the car will run with the MAF disconnected, but if the MAF has gone bad, and detects mositure/blockage it will shut the engine down and prevent start up.

I KNOW for a fact that this is correct, because I have witnessed it twice. With a bad MAF connected the car will start for a brief second ( sometimes ) then die. With the MAF disconnected it will start and run fine. With the engine running with MAF disconnected, then re-plugged in the engine will stutter and die.
