Emergency! my clutch pedal went in but wont come out by itself!!!

Hi guys, sorry if I'm in an wrong thread category.. But its sort of an emergency and I'm on mobile phone... I was on my way home from lunch just now and all of sudden I press in the clutch and it didn't spring back out!!! I sort of panicked and since I was still in 3rd gear I gassed to a driveway where I am stranded now. I can pull the clutch pedal out with my hands. But when I press the pedal if will stay pressed in... I've been calling a few mechanics and they are closed for business til monday... Please anyone with any techincal experience let me know what's going on with my car?

I'm sorry mods if I'm spamming in a wrong category. I will take it down by tonight.

Help!
Kevin

Sounds like maybe you might have hyraulic leak in the master cylinder so you've lost pressure... are your brakes working fine? Have you checked your brake fluid resovoir?

Hi, I just checked the clutch fluid reservoir and it is indeed below minimum. I'm guess I can't simply put in the fluid, since the car probably won't start in gear.

Depending on how low it is you may have consumed air in your system as well. I would start with having someone bring you some fluid to fill up the resovoir and start pumping.

I have my brother bringing some D0T3 fluid. I will try to put some fluid in and start pumping a bit and see if it helps. Any specific way to pump?

One quick question. DOT3 clutch fluid would be same as DOT3 brake fluid?

So did u check the brake fluid reservoir for the clutch? If its low that means you have a crazy leak somewhere.

Brake fluid = Clutch fluid. The bigger concern is that their is a leak and that there is air in the lines. Are the brakes working properly. Try manually pumping the both pedals, assuming there is not a leak, you will have to bleed the system.

Hi guys, thanks for all ur help.

I checked the reservoir and it was below the min point. I put in some fluid to the max line. tried "pumping" a few times which is basically press in the clutch (and the clutch gets stuck in pressed position) then I depress it with my hand since it won't pop out on its own. I can actually turn on the car as my gear is now in neutral and I can depress the clutch. I tried pumping with car on too.. Just to see. Non of these seem to fix the issue. My brakes work normally. And I don't spot any leakage anywhere... :S I've sort of given up at this point. I've called a towing truck. I'm just hoping its not a major issue.. I would hate to find that the problem is in the pressure plate or something. Someone please tell me I'm crazy?

+1. Had the same problem in my old civic. Fill the system up, have a buddy pump the clutch while you're under the car. See where the fluid sprays from...make sure to wear glasses, you don't want to get brake fluid in your eye...

I have since called CAA (Canadian equivalent to AAA) for a flatbed to take my car to my shop. My mechanic will look at in on Monday. I checked for any leakage but I did not spot any but we'll see on Monday... Since my car was towed I've been so lonely and sitting home feeling a bit domesticated. :S

Thanks guys for your support! I will post what the problem was tomorrow. Cheers.
