Weight Loss Ideas for the G (practical ones)

Ok, so I'm looking to remove weight via realistic approaches and with best bang for the buck. I don't consider pulling the rear seat, removing the spare tire, or gutting the interior very realistic because lets face it; a daily driven G35 is not meant to be a race car. Also things such as a carbon fiber hood or trunk offer a very poor lbs to $$ ratio. To give you guys an idea as to the things im looking for, here are things ive already done:

WHAT I DID -- TOTAL WEIGHT LOST
install ART test pipes and support brace removal -- total 15
stock battery 37lbs, new DEKA = 18lbs, so -19lbs --total 34
stock flywheel 27.6 lbs, new act prolite 13.2, -14.4lbs --total 48
random brackets and crap during wire tuck ~10lbs -- total 58
underdrive pulley stock 6lbs, UR 1lbs, -5lbs -- total 64
Remove idler pulley and use shorter GATES belts, ~5lbs --total 69

Some of those were big ticket items like the ART pipes and flywheel, but all were things that didn't make the G any less refined such as pulling the back seats. So has anyone removed stuff like brackets, heat shields, or trim that isn't obvious or is relatively unnecessary from places like the engine bay, or undercarriage (such as catalytic converter brace). I'm wondering if removing all the heat shields from around the exhaust would be an issue and if it would add up to anything substantial, how heavy is that stuff ? Also im going to remove the stock oil preheater / cooler and rework the coolant system over winter, im hoping that's another solid 10lbs, has anyone done this ?

I think you may need to check your math... 58 + 5 doesn't = 64... Anyway I think the best way to reduce weight would be buy a different car. Our g's are heavy due to the frame and other luxurious items. BTW how do you like your art pipes?

These were all approximate, if i recall correctly it wasn't exactly 5lbs. The ART pipes are excellent even with the stock exhaust they sound great and provide better a bump in power than I was expecting. Even cruising in 6th gear and switching lanes to overtake you can instantly tell the difference is there in both the low end and mid range. The car is still pretty quiet with these though, so ill be throwing in an invidia exhaust sometime soon.

Why dont you keep the g as a dd and buy a cheap fixer. If what your looking for is weight loss it doesnt make sense to start with a sport luxury car at all.

I was considering things like 2 piece calipers which in most cases save ~15lbs in for the rear wheels and about same for front, but once again $$/lbs is pretty huge. In example the stoptech rear aerorotors are ~$700...ouch. And perhaps im wrong but getting the fronts is sort of pointless just for the gains of rotational mass since they are not even driving wheels so its not really going to provide the rotational mass gains of things such as a flywheel or pulleys which are a part of the drivetrain.

I completely understand that point of view and agree to an extent, but I really enjoy driving the wheels of my G and not just dorking around with it as a DD. So in essence the goal here is to shift the car a little bit from the luxury coupe end of the scale towards the sports car end and make it a bit more toss able and lively.

There really isn't much else you could do without sacrificing luxury or comfort. Your new exhaust will help since the oem muffler is a pig.

Have you looked into changing your FD gears?

Your logic is flawed.

a daily driven G35 is not meant to be a race car.
Which one do you really want? You cant have both without spending some money.

Yea i have seen it mentioned before the stock exhaust is brutally heavy, i dont recall what the exact weight was though. Id prefer to shy away from the FD gears for now, i think the many posts about improper installations and subsequent whine issues ive seen is whats really keeping me away.

Oh I never said I dont want to spend some money, however I do intend to spend it on items that provide the best lbs to $$ ratio and don't affect the overall DD of the car. So far ive been able to do that quite well.

The effort and money spent to do those few things that gave you lets say 60lbs is not really worth it than just doing a full gut.

The big one in my book would be your seats. Heated automatic seats tend to add alot of weight.

If your gonna get an exhaust, think of a single exhaust if your looking for weight savings. They weigh almost next to nothing.
