Re: hows g on theft reports?

there has been a lot of reports on g35's getting broken into or getting their headlights, clear corners and such stolen but that's about it. i haven't heard about any getting outright stolen--not to say that it doesn't happen. but i would think considering the number of forum members on this and other g35 forums, if it were common, we would have heard something in the past two years that the car has been out. sadly, breaking into our cars is pretty easy (i.e. screwdriver trick) but the chip is pretty hard to bypass: )

Re: hows g on theft reports?

fockers tryed to break into my garage the night i got it....but after a year, its still safe.

btw any car can be boosted, just roll it on a tow bed and there u go..its gone. Forget about riggin the ignition to start, theives these days are towing cars and getting away with...everything.

Considering Infiniti's standard vehicle immobilizer system (key chip), the only way they can steal it is to haul it. Go here for top stolen vehicles nationally and by state.

If they tow the car, then this thing should work; check out www.trackn.com.

Your alarmed as soon as the car moves a certain distance, to let you know what's going on.

Re: hows g on theft reports?

basically im just concerned with knowing if someone can "hotwire" my car, or if they have to tow it to get it.

Re: hows g on theft reports?

I would be willing to bet there is a way to bypass the immobilizer. If not, then it's like gone in 60 seconds and get a key from the VIN number....seems logical despite it being in a movie! Seems like as soon as manufacturers find the next best deterant, thieves find a way around it.

Re: hows g on theft reports?

The VIN number thing won't work... The embedded chip has to be learned by the BCM. The dealership would have no idea what code your current imobilizer is using, so they wouldn't be able to give you a key that matched. To code a new key you need a Consult - a very expensive tool.

There are other ways around the immobilizer system, which I won't go into here because they are on other G35 forums. Also, breaking into the G is piece of cake, our factory security systems have a huge flaw in them that makes it very easy to get into the car without setting the alarm off.
