SUBSTITUTION FOR NAVI

well I regret not getting navigation but I wanted 2 know if there were any substitutions anyone has come up with that isnt too expensive... Below is what I have researched and came up with .. If you have any ideas or thoughts.. please reply..

1) Laptop with GPS receiver
2) Palm with GPS receiver
3) Buying a simple LCD screen and a navigation drive for it and connecting it...

Please help...

1) will cost you $1500-2000
2) will cost you $500
3) will cost you $3500

Its up to you!

I would wait for http://www.garmin.com/products/iQue3600 and see what kind of reviews it gets, you can pick one up for $450 from tvnav.com by calling them (pre-order)

Re: SUBSTITUTION FOR NAVI

I have a Garmin GPS 3+ hooked up to my laptop, using DeLorme's mapping software. It's very cool and works great. The only negative is that you have to haul your laptop on the trip with you and stick it in the seat next to you. Not very good if you have a passenger with you.

You might also want to check out the Garmin Streetpilot series of units. They don't hold a whole lot of data (nothing like the massive DVD nav units), but they get the job done and sure are handy. Plus, you can take them with you from car to car as they are portable units.
