03-07 A/T G35 Coupe Question
I am thinking about buying a used G35 coupe in A/T (don't know how to drive M/T). I was wondering if all 03-07 A/T G35 coupes also have the paddle shifters standard or is it just an add on?
Thank you!
Thank you!
....^....True, but there's several companys that make them for those of us that think they're needed....what's cooler than "Paddle Shifters?"

Since you are asking about paddle shifters I think you would enjoy the 6MT way more than the A/T. The manual tranny makes this car so much more enjoyable IMO. Buy a stick and learn! My .02 cents...good luck!

I would love to learn how to drive manual but in New York, there is so much traffic and plus noone to teach me. I wouldn't like to buy a M/T G35 without having some experience of actually driving a M/T. Don't want to ruin a beautiful car.
Standard. Here's a pic of an AT shifter. This is from an 03-04 model.

Move the shifter to the right where it applies. When you engage in the right slot you are in tiptronic/manumatic mode. You push up to upshift and push down do downshift. It acts like a stick without the clutch.

Whoa..........MeullerG21, can you suggest any aftermarket sources for paddle shifters?
Please!!
I swear, I will owe you one big time.
Or, Tian, do you know of any such local shops - Dade-Broward-Palm Beach County, makes no difference - able to order and do the install for me?
Dude, from the posts I've seen, you know everything.
And that's no joke.
I've seen your G, too.......yup; you've gotta know.
Por favor!! (Will owe you one big time, also.)
OK, all BS aside, console shifter's fine and I can live with it, but I need some paddles.
Need 'em bad, as the console setup is "race application" backwards in more ways than one......shift gate's on the passenger side; should be PULL-UPSHIFT, PUSH-DOWNSHIFT.
Or as of yesterday, badly needed a DTM-style dog-leg extension to the shifter. Kinda like this - high up & directly horizontal to the wheel:
Any demand for dog-legs in the aftermarket?
(DTM-style, i.e., acceleration puts you back in your seat, engine braking for deceleration and/or braking brings your body forward.)
Not to mention, got some time off coming and maybe a wad of cash to spend.
Hook ya boy up, my SFL homie.
If not, Meuller?...Meuller?...Mueller?
I'd appreciate any assistance from either or both of you cats.
Y'all be cool.

Tiptronic/manumatic looks so much more fun to drive than using paddle shifters. Well I really have no clue lol because I drive a plain automatic. Thank you for the help!
Also what happens if you are on manumatic and forget to change gears? I'm so babied by pure automatic transmission...

I think Bell is one maker of aftermarket paddle-shift for our cars. IIRC member DaveB has them installed on his sedan (should be the same for coupe though).
Also there's a DIY somewhere to reverse the Manumatic shifting. Search!!

All automatic G's come with the tiptronic transmission.
If you "forget" to shift gears the following will occur based on what you're asking the car to do:
Accelerating - engine will rev into the rev limiter and the car will protect itself from the mistake by cutting the engine's power in a cycle to remind you to pay attention to what you're doing.
Decelerating - transmission will automatically downshift normally if you don't initiate the shifts yourself.
Steady state cruising - if you've failed to select the appropriate gear, the engine will work harder than necessary and burn more fuel than necessary. Over time this might become a problem.
Don't be afraid to use the tiptronic if you go the AT route. It will be beneficial for you to learn a little about how machines work. It's sad you don't have a role model around who can teach you how to drive a stick.
