Clear Stone Guard on Rear Rocker Moulding

Clear Stone Guard on Rear Rocker Moulding
I have a question for anyone that has intentionally or by accident removed the clear plastic stone guard on the rear of your coupe. The lower piece on the rocker moulding, not the one on the rear quarter panel. If so was it a success? Or did paint come off when it was removed. Also if you did do this what did you use to remove it. A blower dryer, etc... The reason I am asking is that after almost two years without any body issues I hit something in the road that damaged it severely and took paint off the rocker moulding too! Any input / feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You mean the stuff that's like a clear bra kinda right?
If so, that's not painted, it's clear. To take it off will be a pain in the butt, but it shouldn't tear up the paint. Just be careful. I dunno what would make it easier to take it off, sorry.

Re: Clear Stone Guard on Rear Rocker Moulding
the film holds about 50lbs of pressure per sq. inch, so it will take some effort to pull off. I'm not sure when they applied this film, but if the film was put on the car right after it was painted, then yes, the paint will likely come off w/ it. If the paint did not get the sufficient amount of curing and drying time before anything covers it, then it will bond w/ the film once it dries up.
If you're going to try to remove it anyway, then just pull slowly and don't use a heat gun or blowdryer. Once you removed it successfully, you will likely have residue, which could be removed by 3M's Residue Remover. Good luck.
