Quote: is this considered too low? My car doesn't sputter, seems to drive fine. On a cold start its above 1k rpm like it should be. Does is matter what mods you have as well? I have the jwt pop charger and a true dual exhaust. I've done the ecu reset after each mod.

Is it rough?

^ nope....car feels fine. the only thing i noticed is that when i take off from a stand still i have to give a little gas to get it moving. The idle is so low i cant really get it moving without gas easily.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

As much general automotive ignorance as I've read on this forum, I still can't bring myself to ask someone if they can read a gauge correctly.

If I'd remembered the tach starts at 500 I'd have asked "How do you know your car is idling at 200?"

So to the OP, be happy you shared this here anonymously, because you'd have gotten a lot of funny looks at the dealership if you took this "problem" to them...and you'd have been out your $100.

Don't feel too bad. It took me two years, a headlight upgrade, and a question posted on this forum to learn I had fog lights, and how to turn them on and off.

Quote: Nissan designed our VQ engines to idle at a specific RPM for a reason, if the low idle reset doesn't work I'd be finding out why. Quite possibly there are other issues you're not aware of, let's not assume it's alright to just let the low idle issue go. Maybe that's just me, I want everything to be right aka dead nuts/perfect!
Gary
Keep in mind that if your idle is significantly lower than specified, your coolant and oil flows will also be lower as well. Glad that you really didn't have a problem.

Im really sorry about my previous post. I was talking about 600-650 not 6k-6k5.
But the engine should idle around 600-650. The car will shake if the idle drops too low. If resetting ECU doesnt help then you should take your car to your mechanic or dealer. Dealer would be my last choice cuz they always try to charge more than what they did.
But according to your pic, your idle RPM is like 700. And that is like normal RPM. It will drop a lil bit more to 650 after it is warm enough and 650 is perfect.

Just because the gauge says it's in that area, doesn't really mean it is in that range.

These analog gauges are off by about 50-100 rpm. if you gently tap the top of your console while the vehicle is on youll notice the rpm gauge wiggle around. If you plug in a consult or obd type scanner that can give you an electronic reading you'll see.

thanks for the info guys, i had no idea that the first line is 500rpms. In that case everything is within spec.
