G35 vs. SRX

So last night, my friend and I were driving through downtown Atlanta....and at the light we decided to gun it. He has the V8 cadillac SRX. We were racing light to light...(probably a quarter mile). But anyway...HE BEAT ME. Off the line he was quicker....I didnt understand. One thing,however....I didnt turn the VDC off in my car. Could that have been the difference. Also, I noticed that when I was shifting to second, the "slip" light came on, and as I noticed my car was slowing down. Is the SRX just faster than the G? Was I just racing poorly...(which i doubt, but i will be willing to accept, if I was supposed to beat him), or was it because I had the VDC on... Someone put my mind at ease please.

Re: G35 vs. SRX

You should have beat thr SRX without a problem especially if you have a mt.

SRX 0-60 = 6.6 1/4 mile = 15.0

Could it have been that I did not have the VDC turned off?

yes.. always turn off VDC in a race like this.. when vdc kicks in.. it slows down your car..

next time turn it off and do a better launch , and keep on chirpn through gears..

Re: G35 vs. SRX

What does it mean to chirp through the gears, and how do I do this?

You should NEVER lose to an SUV unless it's a turbo cayenne. Turn VDC off next time.

Re: G35 vs. SRX

ok.. lets see
what i mean by chirp is when you rev your engine to redline or a bit past redline and switch gears very quickly.. forcing to lose a bit of traction everytime you change gears..

example..

1st gear > redline > shift > 2nd gear > chirp ( lose traction) > redline > shift > 3rd gear > chirp..

hopefully that helps.

thaone, you have a 6spd? LOL cause chirping in an auto is nearly impossible, i was only able to do it once and going from 1st to second and that was in an S55 AMG! I drove my friends coupe and shifting fast with VDC on in a 6spd, and the light comes on and cuts the power off, if thats how you were racing then you would have murdered him with VDC off!

Re: G35 vs. SRX

Thanks for the clarification....It was definitely because I forgot to turn off the VDC. I felt like my car almost shut off when I shifted to 2nd....I just didnt realize how much of an affect that the VDC has on the performance (acceleration) on the car.
