Re: BURNING SMELL COMEING FROM THE ENGINE

When my car had the smell it turned out to be a valve cover leak that dripped onto the exhaust manifold. Synthetic oil smells quite a bit different from regular oil when it burns. There may not be any oil actually getting to the ground. It was leaking on the top side of the drivers side valve cover, running around the cover and dripping on the manifold. Quite a few 350Z owners had the problem as well. They had to replace the valve cover plus the gasket and some gaskets getting to it. It may not be your problem, but it drove me nuts for over a month until I figured it out. The dealer had factory info about the problem.

So is this a TSB thing? Because I have what appears to be a minor oil burn smell as well. I even checked under the hood and i can see a small oil trail leading down the motor. Obviously its warrantable, but what do they do? Replace the gasket or entire cover?

I don't know if there's a TSB on this or not, (check our TSB/Tech. bulletins)

What you've prolly got is a leaky valve cover gasket. Take it in for an inspection to verify.
It's warranty, and there have been a few members with this issue.

I will never again let a Valet drive my car. When i owned a 00' civic I had it valet parked at the house of blues in hollywood, it came back with the front bumper all scratched up, I don't let my freinds drive my G, why would I let a high school drop out or an imigrant drive it! Thanks, I'll park it myself.

Prolly not a cat unless it's winter or still really cold where you live.

it is the clutch i am pretty sure. mine smells some too when i get on it for a while. but the question is, how bad is it? and getting a aftermarket clutch, will that make it go away or more durable to the clutch burning?
