When I sit in my car stopped, I can hear a hissing sound, almost like a tire is leaking air, coming from underneath the car.

Does this happen to anyone else? It's been doing it for a while now - it may have done it since I got the car, but I only noticed while I was parked, with the car on, waiting for someone. I can only hear it with the window down.

 

Maybe an exhaust leak????? Tranny noise?????

Mine does the same thing when sitting in neutral, it starts then stops several times. I've never understood it, I thought it was normal, but I'll call the dealer and talk to a mechanic.

If you have an automatic, then it will hiss while in MM mode. If you switch to D it will stop. Do you have an auto, are you in MM mode when you notice it or is it all the time?

I've got a similar if not same problem.

It used to hiss or whine after start up or shut down.

Now, after i turn on the engine, there's a whine coming from the bottom of the engine. My best guess is an exhaust leak.

When i hit the gas, the pitch of the whine gets higher.
Taking it in this week.

mine does the same thing...I thought it was because i changed my exhaust and cats, but now I see it not that...maybe the manifolds?

It is when I have it in park, so it's not in MM. Yes - mine stops sometimes in the middle and starts back. Sounds just like a steady, even stream of air like from a tire.

Sounds like others have similair problems..It's only when the car is on, in park. If I turn off the car it makes no sound.

Also, it's nothing like a whine, there is no better definition than a hiss..I guess my ***** is mad at me.

 

I think that hissing is the fuel pump feeding fuel thru the lines?

thats my theory..anyone wanna back me up?

 

Randy are you sure its not that polished, piece of junk bolted onto your engine, i think its a supercharger =) HAHAH JK

Isn't this the problem with the Rear axle that plenty of people have been having? It needs to be adjusted or tightened, atleast thats what I've gathered from previous posts with people complaining about a sound coming from the rear tire area in park or neutral...Mine does the same and as soon as I get a chance to head to the dealer I'll have them take a look at it...

 

when I had the back seat out, I could hear the fuel pump clearly....it seemed like a high-pitched humming more than a 'hissing' sound.........

Curious.
