Very Nice Set-up. I was thinking of doing the same thing too for the Homelink power-supply. No wires everywhere and clean.

- Don't argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.=P-

Re: Escort 8500 installation pics

just splice couple wire and you are done..took me 15 minutes..the only set back in doing this is that the wire is always on, so make sure you dont forget to turn off the radar manually..I wish there is an auto off feature on this radar detector, I didnt read the manual yet...

Re: Escort 8500 installation pics

ok, if you are willing to do it the way I did it here is some tips..
1) unplug the 3 wire patch socket (press then pull) in the back of the mirror.
2) you only need "solid black wire(-)" and "red/black stripe(+12V)"..leave the other one alone.
3) Cut the rubber tubing to expose the wires (be careful) if you splice it wrong and cut the wires it will become so short and you will have a problem..
4) Cut the coiled cigarette adaptor that came with it and only use Red(+) and Green(-)(middle wire). If you dont want to cut the adaptor and dont want to waste it buy a telephone plug and some wires plus you can buy some black tubing in radio shack and do it your self as long as you use the 2 middle wires...
5) Connect "blk/red(+)" and "red(tel wire)" wire together or you can solder them if you have the time (be careful dont short positive and negative together coz you blow the fuse)
6) Connect the "solid black" and "Green" wire and wrap it with black electrical tape to seal it and thats it.
7) Take a good look at the picture how I route the wire in the back this also prevent rattles and will prevent the back of the radar to touch the windshield and cause rattles. And last step is to clean up your mess. The whole process takes only 15 minutes without soldering..

Note: Its a good idea to draw a diagram first before you perform this work..
