Exclamation Exhaust problems. Please share some insight.

Everytime i start my 04 5at coupe on a cold start or after it has sat for a little while i get this horrific metallic noise. Not sure where its coming from exactly, but ill let you guys decide from the video. What could this be?

Happens at 0:29 and from 0:42 and on.


I also have another question about my exhaust. How come after i rev my G, theres no sound as the exhaust is depressing?

I hope you have a 6 speed coupe because if you have 5 speed that either means you got some dumbed-down manual swap, or you mean you have 5at.

Sounds like you have a exhaust leak, double check your gaskets, and your bolts, etc.

fixed. what about the second video? is that normal or was i not revving it enough? i only went up to 3k.

Ah at first when watching I was like "wtf is he talking about" but I see what you mean that it doesnt make the "wind down windy sound" sort of sound..

I really don't know, maybe you didn't give it enough gas, for the short time I had my oem exhaust I remembered it would wind down with that sound at nearly any rpm- just varies on how loud it is depending on rpm level but I remember it being most noticeable at about 3500-4000 rpm.

Not sure what to tell you though since I've never heard of that 'issue' before. Maybe try again with higher rpms?

Yea ive seen youtube videos (even though videos dont really do much justice) and heard people rev up in person and it seemed like with any rpm rev you could hear some resemblance of that infiniti note when winding down. Even when im cruising in third gear and i punch it, the exhaust still isnt as oem "loud" as other g's that ive seen on the highway with stock exhausts. Im completely lost as to what it could be. God, i love that oem exhaust i just want mine.

get a HR y pipe and maybe some hfc's and you're good

Hahaha yea i was thinking of FI hfc, damn love that sound to death. Back to topic though, if the bolts and gaskets look alright, what else might that metallic noise at cold start be?

Honestly not a clue buddy, may be something inside your exhaust/piping itself? It's possible but not too sure..

Mine does the EXACT same thing! Everyones always like whats that noise? I have no clue..my gaskets are good and all the bolts are on. I have oem exhaust with megan test pipes. Im subscribing hopefully someone will find the answer.

Yea im slightly embarrassed now to start my G up around people, sounds like a civic breaking down

i say exhaust heat shield. Put it up on jack stands and take a peak. Mine has never made sounds but ive heard of many G's making metallic rattles during certain RPM's on start up.

My exhuast is loudest when cold started and sits around 1200 RPM untill it warms up. Loud = Sound = Vibrations.

The heat shield is on the MID-Pipe of the exhaust. Also is it time for an oil change? I would have somebody take a look (when oil is being changed) to see if the shield wiggles.

If it does then have them tighten it and bam problem solved.

Nope oil change isnt the issue. Regular scheduled changes always. Would i be able to to tighten the heat shield myself? I mean it doesnt look to be anything mind boggling.
