Base radio in g35 coupe worst I've ever heard.

I figured that if I replaced the speakers with Boston acoustic 6.5s and installed a 12" powered sub, I would be able to tolerate it. It's just as horrible as before. The head unit must put out all mid bass. It's painful to even be in the car listening to this stereo. That means time to shop for a stereo.
Anyone else have this trouble? Can a crossover be installed inline to the speakers or something until I get something new?

Mine sounds like **** too , I'm gonna put a double din DVD player and all new speakers. 2005 g35 base radio too

Yea, it doesn't get loud at all before it starts distorting. I'm gonna put some speakers in too. I have subs, but can't find a good box that gives me room in my trunk.

I agree.....so I just did a swap....I did a double din dvd....6.5" components up front and a 10" sub....also a 4 channel amp...soo much better....I had the bose and it sucked....do this and u will be happy.

I have a jl powerwedge max 12" and it just fits in my trunk. It fits tight, but that is good to keep it from moving. I like the idea so much that I bought the 10" version for my boat.

I have a 2 channel amp that came with my fosgates. Would that work for 2 speakers up front? And what did you do with the rest of the speakers in the back, leave em?

What head unit did you get?

Xet Mar 21, 2011 11:24 PM

Are all of your speakers powered by a separate amp? If not then I have no doubt it would be even worse

Iagent Mar 21, 2011 11:51 PM

Everything is powered by the head unit, and the sub uses an add amp, which gives just a signal to the JL 250 powered sub. Do you suppose that if I used the add amp to power a four channel amp. The head unit would prevail?

Xet Mar 22, 2011 12:31 AM

Wait wait, you are running the speakers off the headunit correct? And I don't exactly get what you mean with the sub, but I assume that has it's own aftermarket amp powering it right?

Those speakers almost definitely need their own amp, I can't believe they even are wired to run at the same resistance as stock speakers...

Iagent Mar 22, 2011 12:58 AM

Oh yes, they work exactly the same. You do realize that I have the Non-Bose system right? I might not have been clear about that.
Stock and aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. I actually think there is no major difference after the 6.5 change. I just expected so much more.
As for the sub addition, I just ended up with more bass and still have the boom in front. An equalizer would fix this, but the wiring would be a nightmare.

:confused2: Or you could just power the speakers with a amp... I use a 2 channel amp to power speakers and subs on my old car, and it made the stock speakers louder. So aftermarket speakers should be much louder. I need a 4 channel though.

Do you mean Bose? Because I am fairly satisfied with my Bose sound system and don't plan on touching it. If you meant Base like bottom of the barrel, then yeah most Base sound systems suck *** on any car.

maclovio Mar 22, 2011 01:12 AM

Maybe i'm use to s%ith...cause I'm happy with my Bose + Sub and a Epic Center Eq for added bass. I'm just thinking about replacing the tweeters
