04 G35 VS 05 G35
04 G35 VS 05 G35
Hey guys =) I was just wondering, do you think it's worth waiting for the 05 G35 rather then getting the 04 G35? I hear it has a bunch of new features as well as a more powerful engine. I guess it has 298hp vs the 280hp the 04 and lower has and also the Ipod feature that I heard about. Been wanting a G forever, just havn't purchased one yet.
Re: 04 G35 VS 05 G35
only the 6mt '05 has 298hp, and the 05 6mt's aren't available yet...not sure what the iPod feature is, are you talking about the fact that the cd player can play MP3's in the 2005? No integration with an iPod...as for me, I definitely think the 05 is an improvement, mostly due to the interior. If the nicer looking interior isn't that big a deal to you, go with the 04.
Re: 04 G35 VS 05 G35
Yea, I was planning on getting a 6mt and like I said I would have to wait =/ which sucks, looking at everyones G35's just makes me want to get one now. The interior really isn't a big deal to me, but Jan '05 really isn't that far away. I'm just wondering if it really is that big of an improvement to wait till Jan of '05. The Ipod thing I was talking about looks like a self installment type thing, I wasn't sure if that feature came with the car or not I just heard about it. I havn't yet to see any pictures of the interior of the 05 G35's, anyone got some?
Re: 04 G35 VS 05 G35
'05: more HP but as I understand it, less torque (if you get the 6MT), interior has real aluminum trim but the gauges are goofy looking (speedo and tach have too wide of a gap between them and their position was switched for some unknown reason), 19" wheels are not so hot looking, new blue colors sort of blah, now has 8-way driver's seat instead of 6-way, no Brembos, the 6MT supposedly will be smoother shifting, analog clock moved to upper display
'04: Brembo brakes (if you get the 6MT), totally awesome Carribbean Blue one of the color choices, 18" wheels look fantastic, gauges look better than the '05 gauges IMHO and the tach is on the correct side
To me, the interior improvements (most simply cosmetic) are not worth giving up the Brembos. Most non-enthusiasts would probably think otherwise.
I'm thrilled with my new '04 Caribbean Blue 6MT which I got on November 6th. CB is discontinued for '05 and is the rarest color. Got a good deal on it and the 6MT shifts fantastic in my book- no notchiness or excessive vibration yet. I think the willow interior looks great and I get compliments about the exterior and the interior from all who see it. No rattles yet. Just a small amount of wind noise from the top back of the driver's side door window.

That's the new wheat interior on the '05 auto. Keep in mind that alongside everything you're getting with the '05, you're losing an almost $3,000 brake system that the Brembos are, and 10 lb-ft of torque compared to the 03/04. You can get an '04 right now at invoice price, whereas you'll most likely have to pay MSRP+ for an '05 in Jan, tires will be more expensive to replace, etc.

Oh wow, they don't have the Brembo brakes?? Geeze, that's a big loss =/ And from what I've read so far the interior improvements don't seem to be very good. The 19's don't interest me at all so I'm leaning more towards a 04 6mt, Diamond Graphite ext with graphite leather int. The 18hp sounded good but less torque?? It's not worth gaining if I'm losing all that you guys said.

You can get some excellent deals on the '04's now.
And there will be a fairly long wait for the '05 6MT's to arrive, and the MSRP price has slightly risen from what I can tell.

Re: 04 G35 VS 05 G35
the drop in torque may be a good thing... they might've changed the tq curve so that it pulls untill redline or close to redline instead of having a drastic drop after around 4-5k rpms

Re: 04 G35 VS 05 G35
Folks,
Brembos are great brakes, no doubt about it, and pretty to look at, and have a real brand following, given an established rep in the business. But the mags have universally commented that they are not bulletproof when abused at the track, etc. While I agree that there is certainly a consideration of cost cutting, I get the impression that Nissan did not get the result they were hoping for, wrt performance and durability. Hence the 19's stuffed with "bigger brakes" (according to the official Nissan 2005 literature regarding the 6mt and Sport package). And if you think the Japanese can't build brakes, Nissin (not to be confused with Nissan) has long been the leader of the pack in the motorcycle world (far better than Brembo), and when Honda finally got fed up with BAR bits on their F1 car, they went in-house to supply BAR with Honda bits, including transmission, suspension, and brakes. Nissin, which makes for most of the Japanese applications, is owned by Honda, and they made the brakes that Jenson and Taku used all last year, taking second behind Ferrari in the championship.
Long story to say that the brakes that we get next year on the 6mt's may just be better, though perhaps not as pretty, as this year's set-up. It'll be tough to tell, given the car got fatter by a hundred pounds, but we'll see.
Cheers,
Derek
