G35x tranny swap
G35x tranny swap
I ran a search before i posted, but I was curious if anyone has heard of or knows of someone trying to swap the tranny/rear/front end from a g35x into a g35c to have a AWD coupe? Ive read many posts about people asking whether a AWD coupe will ever be developed but nothing regarding a swap??.... although im 99% sure this would involve complete and serious overhaul of a coupe and not to mention major $$, just was curious to see if it was ever attempted. I am sure this would involve more than just the tranny being swapped, if this would even be possible? Not sure if the components on the g35x sedan would even work on a coupe...

Re: G35x tranny swap
Honestly, correct me if im wrong, i dont think the tranny has absolutely anything to do with AWD. Although the coupe has an independent suspension needed for AWD, your looking at easily spending 4-5K (if at all posssible) and imo its not worth it. Also the G35X setup is stupid anyways, its something like 25F 75R, and 50/50 in Snow?? if im not mistaking. I used to have an Audi with quattro, although the engine wasnt quite as powerful as the G's i miss it a lot and i really think it helps the performance of a car tremendously. there set up is 25/25/25/25. Which seems more practicle. Ive ask the question before many times and unless this GT-R thingy has mad power they didnt see the point in AWD, especially since Infiniti is always trying to outdo BMW, and the M is still rear.

Re: G35x tranny swap
Setup....STUPID?
The AWD variant outhandles the 2wd in the DRY, moreso in less-than-ideal conditions.
It goes from 50:50 split to 100% RWD instantly, unlike the molasses-slow FWD-bias viscous setup in the Audi.
Bring your Coupe to race my 'stupid' setup and we will see who crosses the line first.

Re: G35x tranny swap
I would agree that AWD may outhandle a RWD in both dry and adverse conditions if both weighed the same but the G35x is significantly heavier than the RWD version. A RWD suspension done right handles as well as AWD when dry and usually weighs much less. I bet on most tracks, the G35 will outrun the G35x simply due to the weight and powertrain loss difference.
