A/C Issues

Beginning today, I have only two temperatures: freezing and burning. If I set the temp to 60, it is very cold (as it should be). If I change it to 61 (or anything higher), it becomes very hot. There is no in between. Has anyone else had this experience, or I am the first?

Re: A/C Issues

That's a new one on me dude. I know there's a sensor up on the dash, passenger side, on the far right side of the defroster outlet that contols cabin temp. If that's obstructed, covered or damaged the system won't work properly.
If not that, then it sounds like a temp control valve.
If the sensor in the dash is unobstructed, then I'd let the dealer have a look. ...Tell us how you resolve this. Good luck.......

I just started getting a wind / whistle noise that sounds like it's coming from the HVAC system, it is simular to having a window open a tiny crack while driving. 3,700 miles on this car and this noise just started. A/C works fine otherwise.

Re: A/C Issues

I wouldn't go as far as "freezing cold" vs. "burning hot," but there is definitely a huge difference between 60 and 61 degrees in my car as well. My guess is the numbers are a misnomer. 60 just means no heating at all; maybe it has some impact on a/c, but it hasn't been warm enough for me to find out. I guess 61 anticipates that it's uncomfortably cold enough to set the system above 60, so it's spewing air that's definitely hotter than 61 degrees. I've come to doubt that the climate controls are sophisticated enough to accurately fine tune interior temperature to a single degree, they just spew heat at various strengths.

With mine, it is either full cold or full heat. There is no in between. There is no difference between 61 and 80. This was tested when the outside temp was 80+, which made this all the more strange.

guys, those #'s dont mean crap.... just imagine 60 as the blue end of a dial, and 85 as the red end of the dial, anything else is inbetween (just like on most non-luxury cars) ..... the reason they make it as digital reading w/ degrees, is for automated-climate-control purposes

i have had your observation on our 2000 lexus rx300 and my '82 mercedes 380SEL (yes, this benz had automatic climate control way back in 1982)
