independent fogs

i had a 95 maxima before i bought my 07 g35 4 months ago. and one of my favorite modds i had done to it was wiring my fogs lights to be on with my parking lights instead of having to have my headlights on. it would be used as a driving light. i saw the 7440 modd to the 06-07 headlights and im not a fan. i was just wondering if anyone has done with before?

The newer Nissans are much more complicated then the old ones. The fog lights in the G are controlled by the IPDM under the hood over the CAN bus. Even the fog light switch itself is on a multiplexed input to the BCM (the BCM then sends the signal to turn the fogs on over the CAN bus to the IPDM).

Because of the way the IPDM is made you can't readily access the coil to the fog light relay - this makes it impossible to easily modify the system. You have a few options though - the KPtechnologies module mentioned above allows you to turn the fogs on and off independently of all other lights by using the OEM fog light switch. Alternatively, you can simply install an additional weatherproof relay under the hood and hook its coil to the parking light output wire (or right to a switched ignition source). The contacts of the relay can be connected between the battery and fog lights (don't forget the fuse). You would need to cut the fog light wires coming from the IPDM to prevent voltage backfeeding in to your ignition system through the OEM fog light relay. Lastly, you can install the relay mentioned above but run wires in to the cabin for the coil. In the cabin you can install an aftermarket switch to turn the fogs on and off. The switch should be powered off of a switched ignition source to prevent leaving the fogs on after you shut the car off.

So, you have several options, and unfortunately none of them are go in to be a 10 minute fix!
