Help with purchasing a G coupe please.

Hello,
A couple of weeks ago i posted a thread on g35driver about two options i had and i'm going to go ahead with an 06 IP coupe next thursday if all goes well.
I live in alberta canada and the car was bought from florida and currently has about 97000 kms (about 60000 miles i believe) on it. It is going for about 18900 canadian and the current owner said he needs to get rid of it so he's willing to be a bit flexible with the price. What do you guys think would be a good amount to offer for the car?
Do any of you have any suggestions on what i should look for. I am fully aware of the usual problems like oil consumption issues. But what i'm looking for is problems that would appear from a car from florida to alberta where we get a lot of snow. Also, should i take the car to a friend which is a mechanic in or to infiniti. This is my first time buying my own car (first one was handed down from my older sister) and i would greatly appreciate any pointers that any of you forum members have for me.
Also, to save the car from being sold i have the option to put a 250$ refundable deposit where i get to basically call dibs and if any offers come up i have a chance to match their offer and take the car. Option number two is a $500 non-refundable deposit where we both agree on a price and the car is basically mine until i get to calgary on thursday of next week. I can take option number two if i get the owner to take the car to the mechanic that i know so that he can check it out. Please keep in mind that i live in edmonton which is about 3 hours away.

Thanks for your help and sorry i'm asking too many questions. I'm also sorry if the questions are a bit confusing cause i'm pretty tired right now, just wanted to put my question out there to get an answer asap because i really want the car. Been looking for the right g35 for almost half a year.

I think you should go for option 1 and ask the seller to let you bring someone who has better knowledge (like mechanic) to check up the car for you.

If you want to go for option 2 then you need to tell the seller that if there is anything wrong with the car he needs to refund you the money.

Because I do not think you want to give that 500 bucks away for free right ?

My friend purchased a used car from a dealer and everything looked fine, but after he got into a small accident.

I took him to the body shop and the mechanic over there told us that the car had been into an accident before that's why he found some parts that's not OEM.

The dealer told us that the car has clean title and no history, so we couldn't do anything about it. And he couldn't find the previous owner.

We figured out that some people would not filed the accident to their insurance company and they fixed the car themselves then sell it.

That's why you can't find any history about it.

No matter which option you are going for, bring a mechanic with you.

Give me the vin number and you email by PM and we can run an AUTOCHECK report on it to get history of wrecks. Is it Auto or Manual???

Check compression rod bushing
Check AC / RADIO
Check all window motor

60k miles means

Belts
Fluids like transmission, differential, coolant
Brakes
tires
worn out suspension parts

AUTOCHECK came back as DISQUALIFIED. The car has LEMON title in Autocheck history along with Odometer rollback. Move on and look for something else.

Turns out the car isn't as bad as it was thought to be. The owner sent me the carfax and a whole bunch of other detailed paper work. Since the car was brought into canada from florida there is a change in miles to kms and the person at the registry put in the 40000 miles as kms making it seem as if it's a roll back. Also it was a dealer buy back because the owner was tired of fixing it all the time due to simple errors when being fixed. I used this information against him to get a price of 16500 CDN which to me is an amazing price. Will be getting it very soon after i get my friend to look at it for any major problems. I'm so excited and glad that it wasn't anything major.

I would do a very thorough investigation with body shop, mechanic and if possible Infiniti dealer. and in my opinion you can get the price even lower given the full Autocheck history. I am sure he got an amazing deal when he bought it given the history. It is a lemon vehicle no matter how you look at it and should have value accordingly. I would push him down further once you get the inspection since you will surely find items that need maintenance or repair. The vehicle will require all the things I listed earlier and more so keep that in mind as mileage increases.

Read all the common issues with G35 and pay attention to those problem spots a like suspension components and interior electrical. The oil consumption issue could be something that affects your vehicle but not in an extreme case like the Rev-up models. Did you say if it was auto or manual that you are buying and do you have any pics of said car. Try to get all around inspection of the vehicle from body, interior, engine, suspension, under-body and service history. Call Infiniti in USA and act as if you are the second owner and try to find out what has been done at the dealer and what warranty work caused the LEMON BUYBACK.

Come to think about it BLUEDREAM gave you priceless advice about the motor.

I like the 06 better, but you will have to watch out for the oil consumption issue since it's a 6MT. See if the dealer can pull the service records on it, maybe you could check with Infiniti as well to see if they have any history on the car.

I am pretty sure the lemon issue was probably due to the REV-UP motor which was consuming oil. Most people used the Lemon buyback case to get rid of there car since it was consuming most of the oil by the time oil change was due at 3k-5k. I would find out in detail why the car was bought back and what issues. Do you think that the issues will not occur with this vehicle. If a lemon lawyer was involved to dispose of this car do you want that HEADACHE.

He got the paperwork from Infiniti USA and emailed it to me right away. He also has detailed work that has been done on the car from infiniti also. He showed me many more paperwork that eventually confused me cause ... it was simply too much for me lol. But i know exactly what is wrong with it and i don't think it's that risky. The current owner has provided me with everything that you guys told me to obtain and made sure that i could buy this car with confidence so i really do trust him. I'm still going to take it to a mechanic when i get to calgary. Can i email you the reason for why there was a buyback so you can look at it for me please?

Be wary about this. Lemon means lemon, so unless you're really good at making lemonade...
