in order to prepare for winter

I am going to have to purchase a set of "cheap" wheels and either put snow tires on them or a decent set of all seasons. I am in MD and see a decent amount of snow, nothing crazy for the most part but last year was my first winter with this car.

Needless to say i was sliding all over the place on my 19's if it so much as flurried... when i had my bmw 328 coupe. the factory 16's had snow tires put on them and worked wonders. Im assuming 17's are the smallest wheel i can go with? Could you all offer any suggestions?

i dont wanna put anything too hideous on but for the sake of traction in a few inches of snow so be it i guess.

A lot of people just run stock wheels with studless snow tires such as

or

I had no prroblem getting around last winter with the little snow we had. I plan to sell my set-up (235/45/18 on coupe 18's) and park the car.

Sport Edition A7, around $109 per rim in 17"

The rims don't look too bad for how cheap they are, and I'd rather rock those then black steel rims.

Then just choose what tire you prefer (winter tire stock will be low at this time of year though). I've been very happy with my Continental Extreme winter contacts.

edit: And if you have your stock rims with summer tires, you might as well get full winter tires. I just switch mine back and forth when winter or summer hits. Takes a tiny bit of time 2 days of the year, and you get summer tires for summer, and winter tires for winter.

I'd look for a set of cheap sedan 7 spoke 17's and wrap them in snow tires. You'll be happy with the look and the grip.

I opted for 18" snows as I wasn't sure if 17's would fit over the Brembos but maybe your brakes will work.

My winter tires are Contential Extremes all-weather 19s, and I live in MD - had no problems
